With The Sims 4 Businesses and Hobbies Expansion Pack, you can finally establish and manage a highly customizable small business. Whether it’s a cat café, a candy shop, or a tattoo parlor, there are numerous options to choose from for your startup.
Alongside the eagerly awaited burglar update, players have long desired distinct business opportunities and the tattooing skill. This expansion also introduced pottery if that's the type of enterprise you're aiming for. However, before you can start profiting, it's important to learn how to set up and effectively manage your small business in The Sims 4 Businesses and Hobbies.
**How to Create a Small Business**
The first step in launching your business idea is its creation, which you can conveniently do right after creating a new Sim and entering the game for the first time.
**Step 1:** Click the cash register icon in Live Mode at the bottom right of your screen. Depending on your installed packs, there may be various options available, but you'll want to go to the Small Business tab. Then, select the Register Small Business option, which costs 750 Simoleons.
**Step 2:** Now you can fine-tune the details of your business. Input the name, description, and pick an icon that best represents your business.
**Step 3:** Next, on the left side, you can choose specific Business Activities. You’ll have a selection of five, or you can opt for a preset if you prefer. Remember, these activities are for your customers and not for your employees. For example, in a coffee shop, customers should drink coffee and eat rather than prepare the drinks themselves.
**Step 4:** On the right side, decide whether you want your business located on a separate lot or within the same lot. You can indeed live on the same lot as your business! If you select this option, ensure you designate areas as Residential, Public, or Employee in Build Mode. You can do this by selecting the room and choosing from the drop-down menu, as you don’t want customers wandering into your living space.
**Step 5:** Finally, you can set an entrance fee and determine your price modifier. This can be adjusted later. Optionally, you can specify target customers if you wish to cater to a specific age group or Sims with certain skills.
**Step 6:** After creating your business, adjust your employee tasks before opening. Click the Manage Employee Tasks button in the Small Business menu to assign specific tasks to each employee.
**Step 7:** You can also manage employees altogether, which allows you to hire new staff and set their wages. Keep in mind, your Sim can only hire Sims they know, so if they lack contacts, they’ll need to socialize more.
**Step 8:** Once your business area or lot is ready, you can open for business (which costs 75 Simoleons) and welcome customers. While it may not be obligatory, it's advisable to have a Kiosk set up in your business. This setup allows Sims to pay the entrance fee and provides options to adjust prices or open and sell your business.
**How to Successfully Run a Small Business**
**Step 1:** The first step to operating a successful business in The Sims 4 Businesses and Hobbies is to unlock Small Business Perks. You need Perk Points to purchase them, which you can earn in various ways:
- Selling products
- Employees completing their tasks
- Interacting with customers through Small Business interactions
We will cover the details on how to accomplish these tasks, but be sure to spend your Perk Points as soon as you can. Accumulating enough Business Renown allows you to buy perks, with various options enhancing your business in different ways: some allow for a tip jar, others let you invest in SimoCoin, or you could engage in shady practices like making false payments.
**Step 2:** Selling products and services is the easiest way to increase renown for your business. If your products relate to a skill, like candy-making or pottery, the higher your skill, the pricier the products can be. Your skill improves as you practice, so keep at it. Avoid overpricing your goods, but also refrain from setting prices too low. Conduct sales occasionally, and when you've produced a high-quality item, consider increasing your price modifier.
**Step 3:** Ensure your employees perform their tasks correctly. For a balanced business, assign each employee a specific role, such as cleaning or managing the counter. It’s crucial not to underpay them, as this can lead to unhappy workers, but overpaying can significantly reduce your daily profits.
**Step 4:** While working, engage with customers using different interaction options. For new customers, greet them with a "Welcome to Business" interaction. After the introduction, you can share small business tips or spread business rumors. For troublesome customers, you have the option to remove them. Engaging with customers helps increase
