Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni vs. Roborock Saros 10R: which robotic vacuum is superior?

      Roborock

If you're in the market for a high-end robot vacuum, you may have encountered the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni and the Roborock Saros 10R. Both models rank among the top robot vacuums available, featuring a comprehensive array of functions that make them highly automated. Depending on how frequently you use them and the size of your home, it's not unusual to not need to intervene manually for weeks at a time.

However, these two robot vacuums are quite distinct. They not only have different price points, but they also utilize unique mopping methods, distinct navigation systems, and vary in their suction power. This raises the question — is the Saros 10R or the X8 Pro Omni the superior robot vacuum?

From vacuuming and mopping capabilities to extra features and pricing, let's take a closer examination of both to assist you in choosing the best option for your home. Rest assured that both are excellent additions to any household, but one may be better suited for your specific flooring needs than the other.

      Pricing and Design

The Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni is the more budget-friendly option at $1,300, while the Roborock Saros 10R comes at a slightly higher price of $1,600. Many consumers find the design of the Saros 10R more appealing, courtesy of a docking station that better conceals its water tanks. It also features an attractive glossy front panel that presents a premium appearance. When it comes to the robots themselves, both are aesthetically pleasing, though the Saros 10R has a shorter and sleeker profile compared to the larger X8 Pro Omni. Nonetheless, despite the Saros 10R's more appealing design, the X8 Pro Omni has a competitive price point, especially considering its frequent sales.

      Vacuuming

With a maximum suction power of 20,000 Pa, the Saros 10R surpasses the X8 Pro Omni's 18,000 Pa. It employs a groundbreaking DuoDivide brush setup for vacuuming. This design features two brushes with a gap in between, allowing hair and strings to slip past the brushes without tangling. Additionally, it includes a side brush engineered to prevent tangles and can swing away from the vacuum for comprehensive cleaning of your home. Our tests showed it performed exceptionally well on various floor types.

While the X8 Pro Omni may have slightly less suction power, it's still effective. It also includes a swinging side brush to access corners and its main brush is designed to avoid tangles. However, testing revealed the Saros 10R's superior performance, thanks to its stronger suction and enhanced navigation, allowing for better overall coverage in the home.

      Mopping

      Ecovacs

Ecovacs has significantly upgraded its mopping technology with the X8 Pro Omni. Instead of the rotating mopping pads or vibrating mopping plates typically found in the competition, it features a large roller mop resembling paint rollers used for walls. This sizable mopping roller is continually moistened by multiple water sprayers within the device, while scrapers underneath remove dirty water and debris. This design ensures the roller stays clean as it moves across the floor, delivering one of the most effective mopping systems we've tested. It can even extend outward to clean near baseboards.

The Saros 10R utilizes a dual spinning mop system, performing comparably to its predecessors. Though it may not clean as thoroughly in one pass as the X8 Pro Omni, it often returns for additional passes when it detects dirty areas. This capability is largely due to the updated sensors and navigation system in the Saros 10R, which are also found in the upcoming Saros Z70.

      Additional Features

The navigation system on the Saros 10R is a notable advantage. While it has not been put through extensive testing compared to Roborock's previous navigation system, the StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 performs admirably, successfully avoiding obstacles, accurately mapping the environment, and ensuring complete cleaning coverage. It includes robust AI technology that allows the robot to determine optimal cleaning settings, operating autonomously without human intervention. The system also effectively identifies areas that require a second cleaning pass, which is particularly useful for muddy entrance areas or messy kitchens.

Furthermore, the Roborock Saros 10R can automatically leave its mops in the docking station while cleaning, making it convenient for homes with both carpeted and hard floors. You can set schedules to ensure it doesn’t travel over carpets with wet mops.

Both robots come equipped with a built-in voice assistant
