Q Acoustics
The British are known for crafting outstanding speakers, and Q Acoustics, one of the nation's top audio manufacturers, has introduced three robust active subwoofers designed to seamlessly integrate into any system without straining your budget. The Q Sub series includes the 8-inch Q SUB80, the 10-inch Q SUB100, and the 12-inch Q SUB120, priced between $900 and $1,200, all available now.
Q Acoustics
Designed for compatibility with both existing home theater setups and two-channel music systems—whether they be Q Acoustics or other brands—the three Q Sub models facilitate easy pairing based on your speakers and the dimensions of the room you want to fill with sound. With power outputs ranging from 200 to 300 watts continuous (and 400 to 600 watts peak), you likely won't need more.

Recognizing that subwoofer placement and setup can be challenging, Q Acoustics prioritizes seamless system integration and installation with the Q Sub series. By utilizing DSP (digital signal processing) along with user-friendly phase and delay fine-tuning, plus low pass filtering and a frequency response range of 40 to 250 Hz for compatibility with a wide variety of speakers, Q Acoustics aims to simplify the setup process. The Q Sub subwoofers feature automatic source detection, which recognizes the type of signal (whether stereo, mono, from an integrated amplifier, or a set of powered speakers) and adjusts the sub's volume accordingly. Additionally, this auto detection will place the sub in standby mode after 20 minutes of inactivity.

All three Q Sub woofers are constructed using "18 mm high-density MDF with a 36-mm double-thickness baffle," and feature "internal dart bracing," which Q Acoustics claims provides significant strength and stability, reducing a phenomenon known as “cabinet ballooning.” This design leads to remarkable performance even under substantial low-frequency pressure.
Each Q Sub model includes a driver consisting of a heavy-duty steel chassis, paper cone, and rubber surround, and, as previously stated, comes in 8-, 10-, and 12-inch variations. Here’s a detailed breakdown of each Q Sub subwoofer:
- SUB80 (8-inch): 200 watts continuous, 400 watts peak, dimensions: 12.4 x 12.4 x 13.6 inches, weight: 33 pounds, price: $899
- SUB100 (10-inch): 250 watts continuous, 500 watts peak, dimensions: 13.7 x 13.7 x 15 inches, weight: 36.8 pounds, price: $1,049
- SUB120 (12-inch): 300 watts continuous, 600 watts peak, dimensions: 15.7 x 15.7 x 17 inches, weight: 49.6 pounds, price: $1,199
The Q Acoustics Q Sub series subwoofers are offered in two finishes—Satin Black with a black grille or Satin White with a grey grille—and are currently available at the Q Acoustics website.
