Julia Louis-Dreyfus reprises her role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the brains behind the Thunderbolts. The varying backgrounds of these characters create interesting drama as they must collaborate. Schreier mentioned that films like Reservoir Dogs, Ronin, and Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol served as inspiration for showcasing mismatched characters forced to unite. He noted that a key scene from Toy Story 3 captured the emotional essence he aimed to convey in Thunderbolts*.

      “It [Toy Story 3] wasn’t just genre-focused; it centered on the dynamics between characters. They all share that teamwork dynamic of being thrown together,” Schreier explained in an interview with Empire. “That [furnace] sequence is so effective because you've grown to care about these characters. Can they escape the trash can as a team?”
