George Miller has another script for Mad Max prepared: "All I can say is we'll have to wait and see."

George Miller is considering a comeback to the Wasteland. He recently revealed that he has a script ready for another Mad Max film, though its production remains uncertain. “We’ve got another script,” Miller shared with Vulture. “Having been in this industry long enough, I'm used to storytelling and I often find myself with an abundance of stories—not just in my mind, but also in written form or as detailed notes that could lead to screenplays. Really, I’m a professional daydreamer.”
While Miller hinted at the possibility of a sixth Mad Max installment, the 80-year-old director intends to work on other projects before possibly revisiting his iconic character. He maintains a careful approach towards Mad Max, stating, “There are numerous stories. One of them is indeed a Mad Max tale. However, it’s not what I plan to do next, as I have two other projects in mind. But if circumstances happen to align, you never know. Often, you're prepared to make a movie and then something unexpected occurs. Some elements come together while others do not, so all I can say is we’ll see.”
Miller first introduced the character Max Rockatansky (played by Mel Gibson) in the 1979 film Mad Max. This Australian independent feature became a tremendous hit, leading to two sequels: Mad Max 2 in 1981 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985. After a 30-year gap, Miller released the fourth film, Mad Max: Fury Road, in 2015. This high-octane chase movie, starring Tom Hardy as Max, is often regarded as one of the finest action films of the 21st century, earning over $380 million and winning six Academy Awards.
In 2024, Miller directed Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a prequel featuring Anya Taylor-Joy as a young Furiosa set before the events of Fury Road. Despite receiving critical acclaim, Furiosa did not perform well at the box office, bringing in $173 million against a budget of $168 million.
