How to capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds
Capcom
The objective of Monster Hunter Wilds is, as anticipated, to hunt monsters using a variety of powerful weapons. For the initial several hours of the game, you will eliminate targets through Power Clashes, Offset Attacks, mounting, and other strategies you may have learned. However, a point will come when you need to capture a monster instead of killing it. Much like other elements in Monster Hunter Wilds, the game assumes you either know how to do this or can figure it out on your own. This is a complicated mechanic, so we will outline the steps needed to capture a monster in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How to capture monsters

Starting from mission 4-1, capturing monsters becomes essential for advancing in the story. The tutorial provides a basic understanding of the process, but it is not comprehensive for new hunters.
To capture a monster, you will require two items: a trap and tranquilizer bombs. Both can be crafted, but the game will initially supply you with some.
The next step involves battling a monster like you usually would until it is near death. It can be difficult to determine this just by observation, but you'll realize the time is right when the monster’s icon on your minimap changes to a skull. When this happens, set up your trap and lure the monster into it. Once it activates the trap, use your tranquilizers to incapacitate it before it escapes. If you manage to put it to sleep quickly, it will be automatically captured.
Capturing a monster will still grant you its parts as if you had killed and carved it, so there’s no need to worry about receiving a lesser reward for being merciful.
