Lizzy Caplan reveals initial plans for the canceled Gambit film featuring Channing Tatum.

Lizzy Caplan was almost cast opposite Channing Tatum in Gambit. However, the film was cancelled following the 2019 Disney and Fox merger. Caplan recently shared her thoughts on the intriguing plans that were in place for the X-Men spinoff film focused on Remy LeBeau, also known as Gambit. “It was a really cool idea,” Caplan told Business Insider. “It's unusual that it was cancelled. Those movies usually don’t get scrapped, but this one did.”

The news of Caplan's potential involvement in Gambit surfaced in 2017, and the actress confirmed she had committed to the project. She even met with Tatum to discuss the storyline, which would have taken many by surprise. “We were moving forward, and we were going to shoot it,” Caplan reminisced. “I think we had a start date. I had meetings with Channing, and there were a few changes… we had a director, then we didn’t, but I had multiple discussions with Channing and the other producers.” Caplan noted, “They wanted to create a 1930s style screwball romantic comedy set in that universe, which would have been a lot of fun.”

Discussions about Tatum playing the card-throwing mutant began in the late 2000s, but Taylor Kitsch was the first to portray Gambit in the live-action format in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Tatum later officially joined the Gambit project in 2014, but it faced numerous obstacles and had several directors attached, including Rupert Wyatt, Doug Liman, and Gore Verbinski. Ultimately, the project was never realized, and the 2019 merger put an end to the spinoff.

After years without playing the character, Tatum finally got to portray Gambit in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. His performance was met with enthusiastic praise, and Ryan Reynolds revealed Marvel's strong interest in the clever mutant. “Honestly, I have no idea what happens behind closed doors during Marvel's bookkeeping meetings, but I know they’re fascinated with him in that role,” Reynolds shared with EW. “It’s a bit like what I experienced. Once they see that it works well, that’s the confirmation they need. Sometimes they just need to witness it in action.”

Survivor is one of the most beloved and enduring reality competition series currently airing on television. It debuted in 2000 and remains one of the longest-running shows in the genre. Now in its 48th season, host Jeff Probst will return this month to introduce a new group of contestants who will attempt to outwit, outplay, and outlast each other for the million-dollar prize at stake.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the new season of this competition show, which not only challenges the physical skills of its participants but also their mental resilience. Competing on Survivor is no easy task. Contestants find themselves isolated from their loved ones and stripped of the comforts of everyday life, along with many basic necessities. However, those who are prepared for the challenge and are adept at strategizing, forming alliances, and advocating for themselves at the end stand a good chance of winning.

Survivor will air on Wednesday evenings on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT and will also be available for live streaming via Paramount+. If you have a standard Paramount+ Essential subscription, you can watch episodes the day after they air. The season is expected to have 13 episodes, although that hasn't been officially confirmed. This would likely lead to the finale being scheduled for late May, possibly on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

The season returns to the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji, marking the 16th consecutive season filmed in that location. Contestants will face a shorter duration of 26 days, compared to the 39 days of the earlier seasons from one to forty. Season 48 premieres just two months after season 47 concluded, which saw Rachel Lamont as the winner, with Sam Phalen and Sue Smey taking second and third place, respectively.
