Framework laptops are becoming more intelligent and more user-friendly for typing.
The idea of open-source, modular devices seems to be thriving for Framework. At a launch event in San Francisco, Founder Nirav Patel shared that the company has experienced steady year-over-year sales growth since it was founded. He highlighted the brand’s advancements while introducing the latest iteration of its well-received customizable PC, the Framework Laptop 13, alongside new features for the Framework Laptop 16.
There has been significant anticipation surrounding the new Framework Laptops, which have not seen updates since 2022. Here’s all you need to know about Framework’s latest product offerings.
Framework Laptop 13
In 2025, the Framework Laptop 13 was refreshed with the newest AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors, boasting features like Zen 5 cores, Radeon Graphics, and a 50 TOPs NPU. The AMD Ryzen 9 processor option includes up to 12 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores.
The revamped Framework Laptop 13 also introduces a new thermal system equipped with a single heat pipe, Wi-Fi 7 support, and display output capability for expansion cards—meaning the laptop can support up to four displays. Additionally, it features a redesigned keyboard where plastic replaces metal in the mechanical structure. Framework emphasized that the keyboard underwent extensive testing to ensure its reliability.
On the software side, the Framework Laptop 13 supports Windows 11 with a dedicated Copilot key for AI features, while also being compatible with Linux as a customizable option. The laptop is generally DIY Edition compatible, allowing users to incorporate custom hardware and software components into a basic framework.
The 13.5-inch notebook offers an optional 2.8K 120Hz display and a 1080p webcam, maintaining the 61-watt-hour battery found in previous models. Crafted from aluminum, the chassis remains slim and lightweight, measuring just 0.62 inches thick and weighing 2.86 pounds.
Framework has also reintroduced the translucent bezel for this model of the Framework Laptop 13, available in four color options, complemented by six new colors for the translucent USB-C expansion cards as an aesthetic feature.
Preorders for the Framework Laptop 13 are currently open, with sales set to begin in April in markets where the brand's products are already sold. The DIY Edition will be priced at $899, while the prebuilt version will be available for $1,099. The mainboard can also be purchased separately. Furthermore, the prior Framework Laptop 13 will be discounted to $749.
Framework Laptop 16
The Framework Laptop 16 has been on the market for a little over a year. The brand has open-sourced the customizable input module system, allowing the Framework community to create various unique projects, including an RGB LED matrix and e-ink display. However, a challenge the brand and community faced was with keyboards, particularly the laptop's thin design not accommodating traditional mechanical switches due to space constraints. Patel mentioned that the community explored many alternatives but could not find lasting solutions.
For the launch, Framework introduced a solution named the One Key Module, a fully self-contained mechanical and electrical switch akin to those found in mechanical keyboards, yet slim enough to fit the Framework Laptop 16 keyboard. The brand highlighted that developers can design ortholinear layouts and ergonomic formats using the One Key Module. They have already created their own ortholinear proof of concept on a Framework Laptop 16 and will collaborate with developers using this solution now and in the future.
