Framework Laptop 12 aims to attract students with its modular 2-in-1 design.
Framework
The modular computing company, Framework, is exploring various new hardware avenues and recently unveiled its first entry-level laptop at a launch event held in San Francisco, California, on Tuesday. The new device, named Framework Laptop 12, represents the brand’s smallest laptop to date, equipped with a custom 12.2-inch touchscreen display boasting a resolution of 1920 x 200 and a brightness exceeding 400 nits, along with stylus support and a convertible two-in-one design. According to Framework founder, Nirav Patel, it is the brand’s “easiest to use, most repairable, and most durable product yet.”
Framework has chosen higher-end specifications that are not typically found in entry-level laptops for the Framework Laptop 12. It accommodates the entire range of 13th-Gen Intel Core processors, features 48GB of RAM, offers 2TB of storage, and includes Wi-Fi 6E. Reflecting on the teaser released a few weeks before the event, which suggested a colorful and flexible design, it has proven to be accurate.
The device will come in five color variants: Lavender, Sage, Grey, Black, and Bubblegum, and incorporates a two-toned design that enhances its durability. “We use shock-absorbing TPU over-molded on plastic with a metal inner structure to withstand bumps and drops. Like all our products, any component can be replaced in just minutes,” Patel noted.
Several features indicate that the Framework Laptop 12 is aimed at students and younger audiences. Preorders for the Framework Laptop 12 will begin in April, with sales anticipated to commence by mid-year. The company has yet to disclose pricing information for the upcoming laptop.
At the event, in addition to the new laptop announcement, Framework also shared updates for its existing Framework Laptop 13 and Framework Laptop 16 models, and introduced a new product called the Framework Desktop, which is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max processor, designed with gaming and AI tasks in mind.

The featured device includes a 7-inch 1080p touchscreen display, an Intel i7-1260P processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. The creator mentions that the system can be upgraded to an AMD Ryzen 7840U mainboard for enhanced performance.
