Jennifer Carpenter will not be returning for Dexter: Resurrection.
Showtime
Despite her character Debra Morgan's death in the original Dexter series, Jennifer Carpenter didn't let that dissuade her from returning in Dexter: New Blood. In this series, Deb appears as a recurring hallucination for her adoptive brother, Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall. While Hall will reprise his role in the upcoming sequel, Dexter: Resurrection, Carpenter has stated she will not be returning this time.
“I am quite focused on where I am, and I feel that I have completed that chapter,” Carpenter told People Magazine. “I’m proud of it… I hope that [the cast is] having a wonderful time… And I’m thrilled for the fans to have more content to enjoy.”
Carpenter portrayed Debra throughout all eight seasons of Dexter, where she was a pivotal character, particularly after uncovering her brother's secret life as a serial killer who targets wrongdoers. Recently, Carpenter has joined the cast of the second and final season of the Yellowstone prequel series, 1923.
The current scenes in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin revealed that Dexter survived the severe injuries he sustained in the last episode of Dexter: New Blood. Dexter had told his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), to shoot him, hoping it would allow Harrison to lead a normal life untainted by Dexter's darkness. Alcott will return in Resurrection alongside original Dexter stars David Zayas and James Remar. Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage will also make appearances in the new series.
Dexter: Resurrection currently lacks a premiere date but may debut on Paramount+ with Showtime later this year.
