      CD Projekt Red has finally announced a release window for The Witcher 4, which is now set for 2028, leaving fans with quite a wait ahead.

      Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the timeline in a video posted on The Witcher's official social media ahead of Gamescom. CD Projekt Red is not prepared to reveal a specific date yet, and The Witcher 4 will not be showcased at this year’s Gamescom.

      Currently, over 500 developers are working on the game, which Nowakowski referred to as the studio's largest and most ambitious project to date. The Witcher 4 will kick off a new saga, featuring Ciri as the main character, following her announcement as the protagonist at The Game Awards in 2024.

      Geralt has one last adventure scheduled for 2027.

      Fans won't have to wait until 2028 to revisit The Witcher universe, as The Witcher 3 is set to receive a new expansion titled Songs of the Past, slated for 2027. CD Projekt Red intends to reveal more details during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25 and at its booth during the event. This expansion will be released over a decade after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt debuted in 2015. A specific release date for 2027 has yet to be announced.

      CD Projekt Red has not clarified whether The Witcher 4 will be released physically or confirmed its final platform selection. However, if it launches on PlayStation in 2028 as expected, a disc version seems unlikely due to Sony’s policy.

      There is some positive news for PC players. GOG has confirmed that future CD Projekt Red titles will continue to be available on the platform, meaning The Witcher 4 should also feature a DRM-free release. GOG allows players to download offline installers without needing its Galaxy launcher for gameplay. The storefront emphasizes game preservation, giving players greater control over their purchased games and access over time.
