LG's humanoid robot is set to debut in 2027, powered by Nvidia's Isaac GR00T.

LG is set to reveal a bipedal humanoid robot in the first quarter of 2027, utilizing Nvidia’s Jetson Thor processor, the Isaac GR00T foundation model, and the Halos safety system. The agreement was finalized on August 13 at Nvidia’s headquarters in Santa Clara, attended by LG Corp chairman Kwang Mo Koo and Jensen Huang.

Nvidia is providing the processing capabilities. The robot will employ Jetson Thor for on-board processing and motion management, incorporate the Isaac GR00T foundation model, and feature Halos, described by Nvidia as the first comprehensive safety framework designed for robots.

LG is responsible for the robot's physical structure, supporting its case for being in this competition. Actuators and sensors will come from LG Electronics and LG Innotek, while batteries will be supplied by LG Energy Solution, keeping most of the components within the group.

Before the humanoid robot launches, LG will introduce CLOiD, a wheeled robot, into production at its washing machine facility in Tennessee by the end of 2026. This will contribute to a data operation using LG CNS’s PhysicalWorks platform to create synthetic training sets alongside actual data.

Computing capabilities will follow. An AI factory reference site on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform is expected in the first half of 2027, with an 80-megawatt facility in Cheonan, South Korea, slated for completion by the first half of 2028, including integration of Nvidia’s DRIVE Hyperion platform into LG’s vehicle projects.

Nvidia doesn’t view LG as a unique partner; rather, it aims to sell the same technology stack to all competitors and has already engaged with Japan’s robotics leaders for its open-world models.

Nvidia has been intentionally broadening its network, pursuing manufacturers beyond China’s Unitree, which has been outperforming Tesla in humanoid sales.

LG is not the only player in its home market; Samsung has established a CEO-led robotics division targeting the same sector, while Hyundai owns Boston Dynamics.

The safety aspect is particularly noteworthy. The issue of humanoids operating in spaces shared with people has yet to be answered by the industry, and Huang emphasized this partnership's potential, stating that physical AI can enable every machine to “understand the real world, reason, and act safely.”

Most developments mentioned here are planned for 2027 or 2028, with the only operational machine this year being a wheeled robot in Tennessee.
