OnePlus has just revealed a new series of budget phones, but your likelihood of obtaining one is quite low.
OnePlus has just unveiled a new budget range: the N Series. The inaugural model, the OnePlus N6, is set to be available on June 30, 2026, but it may be difficult for you to acquire one.
Currently, OnePlus is making the N6 an exclusive model for India. Even with a competitive price range (approximately $215 to $300), it seems unlikely that this smartphone will be available in the US, and the reasons behind this are arguably more intriguing than the phone itself.
What is the OnePlus N Series?
This new budget smartphone series is positioned below the popular Nord line (priced between INR 25,000 and INR 50,000, or around $300 to $600) and the flagship models (starting at INR 50,000, or over $600). This approach establishes a clear three-tier strategy going forward, with each tier aimed at different types of consumers.
Although OnePlus has not disclosed any specifications yet, most smartphones in this segment in India typically feature a 120Hz LCD display, with very few equipped with an AMOLED panel. They often utilize the mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s, alongside a battery capacity ranging from 6,000 to 7,000 mAh or even higher in some cases.
The N series will prioritize battery life, smooth performance, and a sleek design reminiscent of OnePlus’s flagship models, even in its budget devices. The intended audience for the N series seems to be younger buyers (first-time smartphone users or those on a budget), or "Gen Z consumers," as mentioned by OnePlus in the announcement.
Will the N6 be available in the US?
The answer is more complex than one might expect. Currently, the OnePlus US store only retails three models: the OnePlus 15, 15R, and 13, indicating a limited selection that aligns with recent reports suggesting that OnePlus is quietly reducing its operations in markets like the US, UK, and Europe to concentrate on China and India.
However, there is an interesting twist. Historically, OnePlus has introduced more "N" branded devices in the US than in India. The Nord N10, N20, and N30 were budget phones primarily aimed at the American market through T-Mobile.
If the N6 adheres to this past trend in reverse, a US launch isn’t entirely out of the question. A helpful indicator to watch for would be an FCC filing, which typically appears prior to a US release, and as of this announcement, no such filing exists for the N6.
