Standard Bots secures $200M at a $1 billion valuation for its robotic arms in the US.

Standard Bots has secured $200 million at a $1 billion valuation to enhance US manufacturing of AI-driven robotic arms. This funding round was spearheaded by General Catalyst and RoboStrategy, a fund specializing in robotics, and follows a $63 million raise nearly two years ago at an undisclosed valuation.

Based in New York, the company produces robotic arms for industrial automation, performing tasks such as intricate assembly and machine loading and unloading. CEO Evan Beard informed Bloomberg that the company is "on track to account for 10% of industrial robot deployments in the United States" by year-end.

Regarding the learning process of the arms, Standard Bots claims its robotic arms can master a specific task after just one demonstration, utilizing AI systems operating in the background. This method removes the extensive programming traditionally needed for industrial robots with each novel task.

The firm highlights this capability as an advantage that enables smaller manufacturers to embrace automation without the need for specialized robotics engineers. Demonstration-based learning is becoming an expanding sector within industrial AI, with competitors such as Covariant, Realtime Robotics, and several Chinese companies following similar strategies.

The funding will help expand Standard Bots' manufacturing site in Long Island, New York, and support engineering recruitment. By producing robotic arms domestically, the company is positioned to capitalize on the US initiative to lessen reliance on Chinese robotics and manufacturing supply chains. Beard mentioned that while the company sees potential in home robotics eventually, it is currently concentrating on industrial applications.

However, it should be noted that the "10% of industrial robot deployments in the United States" assertion is Beard’s prediction rather than an officially verified statistic. The International Federation of Robotics reported around 44,000 industrial robot installations in the US in 2024, meaning 10% would translate to approximately 4,400 to 5,000 units, based on 2026 estimates. Standard Bots has not revealed its current unit sales, revenue, or profitability.

The $1 billion valuation based on a total funding of $263 million suggests robust revenue growth expectations, although revenue figures have not been disclosed. The company’s previous funding round had an undisclosed valuation, making it impossible to independently compare the growth from $63 million to $1 billion.

"The round came together largely because investors recognized our substantial growth," Beard stated. While this may be accurate, the absence of published financial details means that the growth remains a private claim rather than a public fact.
