Apple's entirely black Vision Pro components appear stylish, but don't anticipate their arrival anytime soon.
The black Vision Pro may be lurking somewhere within Apple's headset plans. Recently, a leak on X (formerly Twitter) showcased images of an all-black Vision Pro headset, featuring a recognizable power strap and audio pod similar to the existing Apple Vision Pro hardware. However, Apple currently does not offer its Mixed Reality (MR) headset in a dark finish.
According to @LusiRoy8 on X, these components are from an upcoming second-generation Apple Vision Pro in black.
The darker finish certainly enhances its appearance, as noted by @LusiRoy8.
This leak pertains to parts, so it should not be viewed as confirmation of a forthcoming release. The Vision Pro has always had a futuristic and somewhat clinical design, thus a darker finish would lend it a more serious look rather than appearing experimental. This isn't the first instance of black Vision hardware surfacing online; previous leaks about a slimmer, lighter mixed-reality headset, internally dubbed “Vision Air,” also hinted at similar black components.
That particular model was anticipated to feature a Midnight-colored exterior while reducing weight through the use of titanium for structural elements and a titanium battery casing.
An all-black Vision Pro has a stunning design, although the outlook for Apple’s overall headset strategy seems bleak. Reports suggest that while Apple was developing a more affordable Vision headset alongside a revamped second-generation Vision Pro, it has now paused work on all Vision headsets to focus more on AI-driven smart glasses.
This does not imply the end of the MR headset, but a new Vision headset might be at least two years away. Upon reviewing the leaked images, it appears that the darker components might be from test equipment or early hardware related to a project that has since been shelved.
