Asus introduces the 320W ROG Strix Scar 18 featuring the RTX 5090, though it's the CPU that really grabs attention.
Asus is extracting 81% more CPU wattage from the 2026 Strix SCAR 18 while Nvidia maintains the GPU at 175W, making this the most intriguing aspect of the specifications.
Asus has unveiled a new gaming laptop, the ROG Strix Scar 18 (2026), claiming it to be the most powerful gaming laptop the company has ever produced.
The standout feature of this device is its total system power of 320W: 145W dedicated to the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and 175W for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU. The CPU shows a significant enhancement compared to the 2025 model, while the GPU remains unchanged.

What’s new with the ROG Strix Scar 18 (2026)?
In my view, the 450W power adapter (up from 380W) included in the package demonstrates Asus's commitment to the Strix Scar 18. This 18% increase in power allows the CPU to sustain up to 200W under certain workloads, although specifics on what those workloads are aren't clear.
The cooling system has been revamped to accommodate the increase in power consumption and prevent throttling. The Strix Scar 18 now incorporates an end-to-end vapor chamber with a heatsink design featuring 0.1mm copper fins across a total surface area of 246,898mm².
You can opt to equip the laptop with up to 128GB of DDR5 RAM and 8TB of PCIe 5.0 SSD storage, though the premium variant will come at a hefty price. It offers various connectivity options including two Thunderbolt 5 ports (with DP 2.1 and PD 3.1), three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one HDMI 2.1, and Wi-Fi 7, among others.

The laptop features the world's first 4K 240Hz Mini LED display.
Regarding the display, it has undergone a significant upgrade. The 2026 Strix Scar 18 showcases an 18-inch 4K (3,840×2,400) Mini LED panel that supports a 240Hz refresh rate, ROG Nebula ELMB technology, and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum.
Just yesterday, I discussed the launch of the Razer 18, which also offers a 240Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution. So what sets them apart? While the Razer employs an IPS panel, Asus incorporates Mini LED, making it the world's first 4K 240Hz Mini LED panel, for clarification.
With all these improvements, the laptop now weighs over 400 grams more than its predecessor, which was already not the lightest option available. Asus has yet to announce pricing or availability.
For me, the 2026 ROG Strix Scar 18 clearly exemplifies how advancements in gaming laptop performance are increasingly driven by enhanced CPU capabilities rather than GPU enhancements.

Microsoft is finally addressing the most frustrating aspect of Windows 11.
Many Windows users have found the taskbar in Windows 11 to be rather limiting. While Microsoft revamped the interface for a cleaner, more modern aesthetic, several long-standing customization options were removed. One of the most significant frustrations has been the inability to move the taskbar freely around the screen. Microsoft now appears ready to make some changes.
The company has commenced testing a significant redesign of the taskbar and Start menu for Windows 11 Insiders in the Experimental channel. This seems like a clear indication that Microsoft recognizes users' desires for their PCs to feel more personalized.
