Discord and Xbox have collaborated multiple times over the years, typically with Xbox granting Discord Nitro benefits through one of its subscription services, like the Game Pass Ultimate. However, this time the situation is reversed. Discord is now offering the Xbox Game Pass “Starter Edition” as a bonus for those who buy Nitro.
The Game Pass Starter Edition is part of Discord’s new rewards program called Nitro Rewards, which also features other appealing offers such as discount vouchers for gaming accessory brands and extra monthly Orbs.
What benefits does Nitro offer now?
Previously, Nitro was primarily focused on enhancing the daily user experience on Discord. Subscribers enjoyed benefits like custom profiles, animated avatars, profile banners, HD video streaming, larger file uploads, and more. While these features remain, the introduction of the Game Pass perk significantly increases Nitro's attractiveness.
Discord Nitro is priced at $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually, with access to the Game Pass Starter Edition included at no additional cost. According to Discord, this starter edition features over 50 PC and console games available for download and play, including titles like Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, DayZ, Deep Rock Galactic, Overcooked 2, and Grounded. It also offers 10 hours of Xbox Cloud Gaming each month.
Is Nitro evolving into a gaming bundle?
It certainly appears to be heading in that direction. Nitro Rewards includes discounts of up to 30% on Logitech G products, 15% off SteelSeries gear, and 20% off KontrolFreek, with these offers expected to change periodically. Nitro members will also earn 250 Orbs each month, along with an Orbs multiplier for completing Quests.
Nitro Rewards will gradually launch over the next few weeks in eligible regions, so some subscribers may not immediately see the new benefits. The Game Pass Starter Edition seems to target Nitro users who do not currently hold an active Xbox Game Pass subscription. Overall, this makes Nitro much more marketable, and for Xbox, it's a savvy method to engage players already using Discord for social interactions. Consequently, it seems beneficial for both parties.
