For many years, obtaining a pass for Apple Wallet required relying on whether your gym, airline, or coffee shop integrated the necessary features. iOS 27 changes that by eliminating the need to wait for businesses to catch up.

If you've ever looked at a physical loyalty card and wished for a digital version on your iPhone, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has an important update for you. Apple is working on a "Create a Pass" feature for the Wallet app as part of the iOS 27 update.

This feature will allow users to create and digitize their own passes directly on their iPhones, bypassing the need for businesses to provide official Wallet support.

According to the report, this feature will address the most commonly used passes in daily life, such as digital tickets, reward cards, gift cards, and other membership passes (likely for gyms, libraries, etc.).

Users will be able to access it through two main options: first, by tapping the “+” button in the Wallet app, and second, through the page typically used to add credit cards. Once in, the interface guides users to "create passes for tickets, memberships, gift cards, and more."

You can either create a pass from scratch or use your iPhone camera to scan a QR code to generate a custom digital pass. This feature is particularly useful when a service provides a QR code for entry but lacks native Apple Wallet support.

This isn’t the first mention of this development. Additionally, you will have access to customization tools to modify styles, images, colors, and text fields to personalize each pass. Currently, the company is testing three template options: Standard (orange) as the default, Membership (blue) for gyms and access-based venues, and Event (purple) for games, movies, and other ticketed events.

In April 2026, Apple’s back-end code hinted at a feature for converting physical passes into digital Wallet entries. Gurman’s latest report now offers further details, including its name and a color-coded system.

It's important to note that Google Wallet has had user-generated pass support for some time, and various third-party applications allow users to digitize their physical passes for storage on iPhones. Apple is simply catching up to meet user demand.
