The upcoming MacBook Neo may receive a RAM enhancement. Incredible, especially considering the current economic situation!

Apple has always been known to make you feel the squeeze on your finances, but here's some unusual good news for your budget — or at least, for what you're receiving for your money.
According to Tim Culpan, a tech columnist based in Taiwan and former Bloomberg reporter, writing in his Culpium newsletter, Apple intends to include the A19 Pro chip in the upcoming MacBook Neo. This is the same chip that powers the iPhone 17 Pro. With this upgrade, Mac users can finally expect something they've been wanting for years: increased RAM. Specifically, a boost from 8GB to 12GB of unified memory.
Yes, it's true. Apple is finally increasing the base RAM on its most affordable Mac laptop — and no, you won’t have to spend a fortune for a “Pro” designation to obtain it.
Why this is more significant than it may appear
Let's be honest: 8GB was already a contentious baseline in 2025, let alone today. Power users and professionals expressed their concerns loudly, while Apple largely ignored them. However, the MacBook Neo has always been marketed as the entry-level model within the Mac ecosystem, designed to turn iPhone loyalists into laptop purchasers. Providing it with memory that struggled under current multitasking demands is akin to offering a sports car with low-quality tires.
Shifting to 12GB meaningfully alters the discussion. It's not a groundbreaking change, but it genuinely enhances the user experience, making the Neo a more suitable daily laptop — whether you're managing multiple browser tabs, editing photos, or utilizing on-device AI features that are only going to demand more resources.
What you won't be getting, however
Before you get too carried away with GPU enthusiasm, hold your horses. Culpan indicates that Apple will likely use a binned version of the A19 Pro — featuring a 5-core GPU instead of the 6-core variant in the iPhone 17 Pro. The current MacBook Neo also operates with a 5-core GPU, so this is less of a downgrade and more of a “nothing changes here, move along” situation.
Binning chips is a common industry practice — it helps Apple manage supply chain efficiency — but it means that the Neo will remain distinctly in its performance category. Don’t expect to render 4K timelines on it.
The current MacBook Neo saw strong sales when it debuted in early March this year, and its successor is reportedly expected to release sometime next year. If Apple maintains a competitive price and honors the RAM upgrade, the next Neo might very well become the most sensible Mac investment in a considerable time.

Gemini can now convert your chat into a finished PDF, Word document, or spreadsheet with just one tap
For the first time, the output generated by Gemini and what appears on your device are identical. This update significantly eases the professional use of AI.
I have spent quite a bit of my time transferring Gemini’s outputs into Word documents, reformatting headers, adjusting spacing, and wondering why AI couldn't handle this on its own. Thankfully, Google has finally taken steps to alleviate my frustration. Today, Google announced an update that allows the Gemini app to create downloadable, ready-to-share files directly within the chat, eliminating the need for manual reformatting.

AI-generated scams are becoming so sophisticated that even tech-savvy individuals are caught off guard.
This issue is compounded as more people begin relying on AI for answers to everyday questions. Many are turning to AI-driven browsers and tools like Claude for assistance, ranging from what to wear for an event to which restaurant to visit while traveling. It won’t be long before those same individuals ask their AI tools about online safety.
