This time, your phone might finally be more adept at identifying fraud than your patience during the fifth unknown call of the day at 7 PM.

      Samsung enters the scam detection realm

      Google has been consistently integrating Scam Detection into its AI framework, utilizing Gemini to evaluate live phone conversations and flag any suspicious activity in real-time. So, if a caller starts sounding like they’re reading from a heist script, your phone will subtly suggest, “Maybe don’t trust this one.” On Pixel phones, this functionality operates directly on the device, ensuring that calls aren’t sent to the cloud for analysis. This maintains your privacy while allowing AI to effectively identify scam patterns.

      Earlier this year, Samsung collaborated with Google to incorporate this feature into its own Phone app, starting with the Galaxy S26 series. This meant users no longer had to depend on Google’s default dialer for built-in scam protection. However, the rollout has been primarily limited to English-speaking users in the US, leaving many international users to handle unknown calls the traditional way. It appears this might be changing.

      Recent observations from the Phone by Google app indicate that Scam Detection is being prepared for Samsung's next-generation foldables. This implies that Samsung's eventual rollout may not be as geographically limited as it currently is.
