Microsoft is enhancing the right-click functionality and Quick Settings, and it's long overdue.
A long-awaited performance enhancement is on its way to Windows 11, focusing on the menus you interact with daily.
Windows 11 users may finally experience relief from one of its most frustrating slowdowns. As reported by Windows Latest, Microsoft is redesigning Quick Settings and the right-click menu to make them respond instantaneously—two features that you likely utilize multiple times each day.
Currently, both features can have noticeable delays that make them feel unreliable. For instance, when you tap Wi-Fi or sound, the panel might take a few seconds to appear, and some toggles could refresh later.
Microsoft has stated that it is testing modifications to eliminate this lag as part of a larger initiative to enhance responsiveness throughout Windows 11. This effort also includes improving the right-click menu, which will open more swiftly in File Explorer and other locations, addressing yet another long-standing issue.
Issues with Quick Settings
During testing, Quick Settings can freeze when switching Wi-Fi networks or toggling Bluetooth, sometimes taking several seconds to reflect updates on the display. This creates a delay between the action and the feedback, making the system feel uncoordinated.

The aim is to eliminate wait times in Quick Settings, including for buttons and deeper menus. Microsoft is also introducing minor usability improvements. Users will soon have the ability to rearrange tiles using drag and drop, and a new Energy Saver section will consolidate controls like dark mode, brightness adjustments, and power settings in one location.
A part of a broader cleanup
This adjustment is part of a larger initiative to enhance the responsiveness of Windows 11's user interface. Microsoft is working on fundamental UI components that react without delays, such as the Start menu, taskbar, and notifications.

The notifications center is also being refined to display alerts more quickly and clear them efficiently, while minimizing interruptions from updates and other prompts. Instead of addressing one issue at a time, Microsoft is elevating overall performance across various areas.
What’s next
These enhancements will not be implemented immediately. Microsoft has outlined a timeline of Windows 11 updates scheduled to roll out through 2026, with these modifications associated with larger releases. This suggests extensive system updates rather than quick fixes, which might yield more consistent improvements once they are launched.
Microsoft is also revamping the Settings app to streamline it and decrease reliance on the older Control Panel, although some advanced options will still direct users there.
If minor delays in everyday actions have been hindering your experience, particularly when right-clicking or toggling settings, this update is definitely one to keep an eye on.
