Samsung has announced that its Galaxy smartphones will soon support AirDrop functionality, allowing files to be sent directly between Android and Apple devices.
Last year, Google and Apple launched interoperability between AirDrop and Quick Share on Pixel devices, with Google later confirming that this compatibility would extend to additional Android phones. Now, Samsung is officially joining this initiative with its Galaxy series.
When will Samsung implement AirDrop support for Galaxy phones?
According to 9to5Google, Won-joon Choi, Samsung's MX Business COO, indicated that support will begin with the Galaxy S26 series and will be gradually deployed through software updates.
This feature will not be available right away but will roll out in phases, meaning you might need to wait based on your specific device. The Galaxy S26 will be the first model to receive AirDrop support, and Samsung intends to extend this capability to other Galaxy phones over time.
This update will enhance Quick Share, Samsung's current file-sharing system. Once available, your Galaxy phone should more easily detect and send files to Apple devices without the need for third-party applications or alternatives.

File sharing between Android and Apple devices has historically been problematic. Users frequently depend on messaging apps, cloud links, or emails to transfer files.
