      The next frontier for AI services seems to be in healthcare. Recently, Microsoft introduced Copilot Health, a service that compiles your health data from various sources to produce actionable insights.

      In a similar vein, Perplexity has unveiled Perplexity Health, a collection of connectors that directly links your personal health data to Perplexity Computer, offering answers specifically tailored to you.

      What distinguishes Perplexity Health from a typical AI health search?

      Currently, your health data is scattered across several platforms. Lab results may be found in one portal, prescriptions in another, and fitness information within a different app. Perplexity Health consolidates all this information in one location, revealing insights that might otherwise remain undiscovered.

      At its launch, it connects to Apple Health, electronic health records from over 1.7 million healthcare providers, and platforms like Fitbit, Ultrahuman, and Withings, with Oura and Function integrations coming soon.

      When you pose a question concerning your health, it cross-references data from your activity trackers, lab results, and medical history to deliver a thorough, personalized response. As noted in the press release, “A question regarding resting heart rate, for instance, can take into account your recent activities, cardiac background, and latest blood tests.”

      It will also generate a personalized dashboard that monitors your biomarkers and activity trends over time, providing you with a comprehensive view of your health.

      Can you trust the responses it provides?

      The press release mentions that responses in Perplexity Health are based on clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed journals, as opposed to SEO-focused content designed for Google ranking. Furthermore, “Each answer comes with citations directly linked to the source material, allowing you to review the basis for the information.”

      Perplexity has formed a Health Advisory Board consisting of doctors, researchers, and health technology experts to inform product decisions and maintain clinical standards.

      In terms of data privacy, Perplexity assures that your information is encrypted both in transit and at rest, is not used to train AI models, and is not sold to third parties. You have the option to disconnect any source or remove your data at any moment.

      Personally, I would consider waiting a few months to observe the service's performance before granting any AI application access to my health records. However, if you are interested in trying it now, Perplexity Health on Computer will be available to Pro and Max users in the US in the upcoming weeks.
