Perplexity has introduced Perplexity Health.

The AI search firm has introduced a collection of health data connectors that link Apple Health, wearable devices, and electronic health records, marking it as the second significant AI platform to connect with Apple Health after OpenAI. Consumer health AI has emerged as the fastest-growing product category this year, and on Thursday, Perplexity made a substantial entry into the market. The company unveiled Perplexity Health, a set of data connectors that aggregates a user's electronic health records, wearable data, and lab results into one platform, which then personalizes responses to health inquiries based on that combined information.

Perplexity Health follows OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health, which was launched in January 2026. Microsoft recently introduced Copilot Health just a week ago, on March 12.

Perplexity Health's architecture is built on Perplexity Computer, the company’s platform for autonomous AI tasks. At launch, this product connects with Apple Health on iOS and with wearable devices and health applications like Fitbit, Ultrahuman, and Withings through the Terra API, a unified health and fitness data platform. The electronic health records are accessed via b.well Connected Health, a HIPAA-compliant platform that Perplexity announced as a partner in a simultaneous press release. Upcoming integrations with Oura and Function are anticipated.

The partnership with b.well represents a significant component of the infrastructure. According to b.well’s announcement, the company connects to over 2.4 million providers and more than 350 health plans and laboratories across the United States.

Kristen Valdes, the founder and CEO of b.well, explained the rationale behind the partnership: AI-driven health inquiries are taking place on a large scale, and the key issue is whether the responses are based on an individual's actual medical history rather than generalized population data.

The product's proposition is that health data is inherently fragmented, with lab results in one location, prescriptions in another, and fitness data elsewhere, emphasizing that meaningful answers require access to all this information simultaneously. For instance, a query about resting heart rate could integrate recent activity data, cardiac history, and the latest blood tests all at once.

The customizable dashboard monitors trends in biomarkers and activity over time, and Perplexity Computer can utilize the connected data to generate outputs such as pre-appointment summaries, personalized nutrition plans, and marathon training regimens. Responses are informed by clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed literature, with citations linking back to the original sources.

To address the evident clinical risks associated with this category, Perplexity is launching with a Health Advisory Board consisting of physicians, researchers, and health technology experts, whose role is to evaluate product decisions, content quality, and clinical safeguards to ensure they meet evidence-based medicine standards.

The company clearly states that Perplexity Health is not intended as a diagnostic tool; it is designed to provide educational health information that assists users in understanding their data and in preparing for discussions with clinicians, rather than serving as a replacement for professional medical advice.

Regarding privacy, the company asserts that health data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, subject to stringent access controls, not utilized for training AI models, and never sold to third parties. Users retain the ability to disconnect any data source or delete their information at any time.

These commitments are similar to those made by OpenAI and Microsoft for their respective health products, although independent verification of these assertions is currently limited. A Washington Post investigation earlier this year revealed that ChatGPT was prone to presenting health information not substantiated by the data it received, a fundamental issue that connectivity alone cannot rectify if the underlying model is faulty.

Perplexity Health will be made available to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States in the upcoming weeks, initially on iOS and on the web at perplexity.ai/health. Broader access for additional subscriber tiers and regions is expected in due course. This product follows Perplexity Finance, which utilized Plaid to provide users with connected access to brokerage accounts, representing the second major vertical developed on the same Perplexity Computer infrastructure.
