LG's latest UltraGear evo monitors emphasize high resolution and AI upscaling technology.
From AI-enhanced upscaling to significant advancements in Mini-LED blooming, LG's UltraGear evo monitors indicate that the future of gaming displays hinges on subtlety rather than extravagance.
LG has introduced a new series of UltraGear evo gaming monitors that emphasize two primary themes: increased resolutions and advanced AI upscaling. This lineup includes three models: a 39-inch 5K2K OLED gaming monitor, a 52-inch 5K2K 240Hz gaming monitor, and a 27-inch 5K mini-LED monitor.
First, the 39-inch GX9 (39GX950B) is a curved OLED monitor that offers “5K-class clarity without needing GPU upgrades,” highlighting its focus on AI upscaling. Featuring real-time upscaling, AI Scene Optimization, and AI Sound, it enhances both visuals and audio.
The monitor incorporates LG’s RGB tandem OLED technology, providing improved brightness, color accuracy, and extended panel durability. It can alternate between two refresh rate and resolution settings: 165Hz at 5K2K and 330Hz at WFHD. Notable specs include a 0.03ms (GtG) response time and a pixel density of 142 PPI.
The second model is the 27-inch LG UltraGear evo GM9 (27GM950B), claimed by the company to be the world’s first 5K mini-LED monitor that significantly enhances blooming control. For those unfamiliar, blooming refers to the halo-like effect seen around the edges of many non-OLED displays where bright and dark elements are situated close together.
According to LG, the solution lies in a densely packed mini-LED local-dimming system (2,304 zones), with tighter backlight management and reduced spacing between the panel and LED, enabling more precise illumination of bright highlights and dark zones. This monitor also features 5K AI upscaling, dual refresh rate modes (165Hz at 5K and 330Hz at QHD), and a 1ms (GtG) response time.
Lastly, LG has presented the “world’s largest” 52-inch G9 (52G930B) 5K2K gaming monitor, which realistically resembles a television. With a vertical height of 42 inches, a refresh rate of 240Hz, and a 1000R curvature, this gaming display also includes 5K AI upscaling.
All three UltraGear evo monitors are set to be showcased at CES 2026, where LG will likely announce their pricing. Additionally, LG has confirmed the global release of the UltraGear GX7 (27GX790B), a 27-inch gaming monitor employing tandem OLED technology capable of up to 720Hz at HD resolution.

Meta has introduced a new open-source AI tool that assists in cleaning up noisy recordings simply by typing.
The tool accommodates text, visual, and time-based prompts for accurate sound separation.
Typically, cleaning audio entails scrubbing timelines and adjusting filters, but Meta believes it should be as straightforward as describing the desired sound. The new open-source AI model named SAM Audio can isolate nearly any sound from a complex recording through simple text prompts. Users can extract specific sounds like voices, instruments, or background noise without navigating complex editing software. This model is currently accessible via Meta’s Segment Anything Playground, which also features other prompt-based image and video editing tools.
