Instagram enhances content creation and feed management with new features in the Edits app and "Your Algorithm."
Instagram transitions from passive scrolling to active involvement: assisting you in creating faster, curating your feed, and gaining more control over your experience.
Instagram has introduced a significant update for its Edits app. The newest version features pre-designed templates, storyboards, advanced text customization options, and the capability to incorporate public Reels directly into the app, facilitating the remixing (or repurposing) of content (via a Threads post).
One of the key enhancements is a lock screen widget for iPhone users that allows instant access to the camera or enables creators to quickly capture a shot and send it to the Edits app without having to unlock their phone.
By incorporating customizable templates, storyboards, and lock screen access, Edits will minimize the delays between inspiration and creation, which often consume time. These additions respond to creator feedback and support faster workflows. Clearly, this enhances Edits’ reputation as a comprehensive editing solution for creators, putting it in competition with other platforms like CapCut and TikTok.
In addition to enhancements in the Edits app, Instagram is launching a new feature known as "Your Algorithm." Initially available to Instagram users in the United States, this feature allows users to see the topics and interests Instagram believes they are interested in (and are reflected in the Reels feed) while enabling them to fine-tune these interests by adding or removing them.
Essentially, this feature provides users with detailed control over the content they encounter. Historically, algorithm feeds have largely remained opaque, and features like topics of interest have had limited impact on the recommendations made by Instagram. However, “Your Algorithm” aims to change this. The app also plans to introduce a similar feature for the Explore page.
If you’re a content creator, the new features in the Edits app are designed to save you time, enhance consistency, and allow you to quickly capture your ideas before they slip away. In contrast, everyday users should benefit from the “Your Algorithm” feature by actively adjusting their preferred topics of interest. This will be particularly useful for those who feel trapped in a cycle of viewing the same types of videos in their Reels feed.
These new capabilities are expected to foster the creative ecosystem on Instagram while simultaneously addressing the concerns of regular users who feel that the Instagram algorithm lacks flexibility. We can anticipate more user-centric customization features in future updates to the social media platform.

Hardware keys and passkeys need to be re-enrolled; authenticator apps will not be affected, according to X.
What is happening? X has alerted users that it is transitioning logins to x.com and intends to phase out the twitter.com domain. Anyone utilizing a hardware security key or passkey must re-enroll by November 10 so that their key links to x.com. X has clarified that this is not a security issue, and authenticator apps remain unaffected. The company’s Safety account mentioned that accounts that employ security keys for two-factor authentication must re-enroll to maintain access, as communicated in posts on X.
Meta has introduced disappearing posts to Threads, now under a rather eerie name.
You can now share posts that disappear from the public feed after 24 hours, while keeping their replies private.
Remember disappearing messages? They are now arriving at Threads, Instagram's rival to X. Meta has branded these as “ghost posts,” although the name may be somewhat misleading, as they are not entirely invisible.
