DJI introduced its new wearable free-angle camera, Osmo Nano, on Tuesday. The company claims it features a compact magnetic design and offers flexible viewing angles. Targeted at sports recording, vlogging, and outdoor activities, the Osmo Nano aims to broaden the applications of portable imaging devices.

Importance: The Osmo Nano, DJI’s first foray into the wearable camera market, represents a significant step into a new product category for the company. This release aligns with DJI's strategy to diversify its offerings beyond drones and gimbals to include more everyday portable imaging solutions.

Details: Weighing in at 52 grams, the Osmo Nano includes a modular magnetic design, advanced imaging capabilities, and boasts a battery life of up to 200 minutes.

The camera features an omnidirectional magnetic interface that allows for dual-sided attachment, enabling quick transitions between selfie and third-person views. Accessories like magnetic hat clips, lanyards, chest straps, and headbands make it easy to mount the camera on helmet visors, collars, bicycle frames, or pet collars. It can be secured to the front of a helmet for first-person cycling shots, or attached to a chest strap for recording cooking demonstrations—granting the ability to create content hands-free.

With a 1/1.3-inch Omnivision OV50H sensor and a 4nm main control chip, the Osmo Nano supports HDR video recording at 4K/60fps and slow-motion shooting at 4K/120fps. It provides a dynamic range of up to 13.5 stops, and the night mode improves image quality in low-light conditions.

The 143° ultra-wide lens, combined with RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonLock technologies, ensures stable footage even during fast motion, as stated by DJI. A 10-bit D-Log M mode enhances grading options, while dual DJI Mic support is available for professional two-person audio recordings.

The Osmo Nano is compatible with the DJI Mimo app for real-time previews, beautification features, and sports data overlays, and it can sync with devices like the Apple Watch. Its transmission module supports Wi-Fi 6.0 and USB 3.1, allowing it to charge to 80% in just 20 minutes. The standard kit, which includes 64GB of storage, is priced at RMB 1,998 ($280).

Context: According to sources from Baidu, based on data from various research firms and market analysis platforms, the leading global action-camera market shares in 2024 were held by GoPro (28.7%), Insta360 (27.3%), DJI (25.8%), Sony (7.2%), and AKASO (3.6%).
