Swedish scaleup Flower triumphs at TECH5 — the 'Champions League of Technology.'

Swedish energy technology pioneer Flower has been honored with the TECH5 award, often regarded as the “Champions League of Technology.” The company has been recognized as Europe’s leading scaleup for its innovative approach to energy storage and grid stabilization.

Flower collaborates with clients managing battery storage solutions—including electric vehicle fleets, residential batteries, solar farms, and data centers—helping to feed power back into the grid during peak demand periods. Based in Stockholm, the company utilizes its software platform to analyze energy asset portfolios, providing insights that inform storage and management strategies, thereby enhancing predictability and flexibility for both producers and consumers of energy.

This approach results in a more balanced energy supply, facilitates the smooth integration of renewable sources, decreases dependence on fossil fuels, strengthens grid resilience, and creates new revenue opportunities for asset owners.

Hampus Jildenbäck, marketing director at Flower, stated, “A higher proportion of renewable energy brings significant volatility and uncertainty. The most effective method to manage this volatility is through battery energy storage. If we aim for a fossil-free energy system, resolving numerous challenges is essential—this is the primary one.”

      Pathway to the TECH5 title

Flower stood out from a distinguished shortlist of TECH5 candidates across seven regions: Benelux, the Nordics, DACH, France, Southern Europe, the Baltics, and the UK and Ireland. From these contenders, the judges identified five strong finalists: Flower, DataSnipper (Netherlands), Swan (France), Gain.pro (Netherlands), and Turing College (Lithuania). Each finalist was evaluated based on growth, impact, and future potential, with all five performing excellently in every category—yet Flower emerged as the top choice.

Jildenbäck explained to TNW that the scaleup’s initiatives extend beyond just grid stabilization and asset optimization. “We adopt a comprehensive ecosystem approach, utilizing our storage portfolio not only to stabilize the power grid but also to facilitate something greater,” he shared. “We source energy from wind and solar farms, manage their volatility with our storage capabilities, and subsequently provide society with affordable, dependable, and predictable green electricity—what has been the ultimate goal in renewable energy.”

      Future of energy

Flower’s win at TECH5 was announced today at the TNW Conference in Amsterdam. Jildenbäck expressed that the accolade is “a true testament to our mission and motivation for the entire team to keep advancing the work we've begun.”

Looking forward, he noted that Flower intends to expand into six European markets and collaborate with the wider European energy and technology ecosystem “to enable tomorrow’s energy system.” By winning TECH5, Flower joins the ranks of other top European scaleups. Previous winners include the fintech leader Revolut, the food recovery app Too Good To Go, and the online supermarket Picnic. Now, Flower adds a new wave of growth to the green tech sector.
