Marvel's movie timeline following the postponements of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

The Avengers will reunite, but at a later time.
Disney has postponed the release dates for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Doomsday has been shifted from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026, while Secret Wars will now arrive on December 17, 2027, instead of May 7, 2027.
Disney also made additional announcements concerning Marvel. The studio has removed three Marvel dates from its schedule: February 13, 2026; November 6, 2026; and November 5, 2027. The February date currently has no replacement film, while both November slots are now designated as untitled Disney projects.
As of now, only four movies in Phase Six of the MCU have confirmed release dates:
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25, 2025
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day – July 31, 2026
- Avengers: Doomsday – December 18, 2026
- Avengers: Secret Wars – December 17, 2027
With Doomsday moving to December, there will be a year gap between The Fantastic Four and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This marks Marvel’s longest gap between theatrical releases since 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home and 2021's Black Widow, with COVID-19 contributing to the hiatus.
Disney still has some release dates for untitled Marvel films on its calendar. July 23 is the only 2027 date aside from Secret Wars, while 2028 has three movies planned for February 18, May 5, and November 10.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has adopted a focus on quality over quantity for Marvel projects. In May 2024, Iger stated during an earnings call that moving forward, Marvel aims to release only two to three movies along with two TV shows each year.
Marvel is placing significant expectations on Doomsday and Secret Wars, so giving the Russo Brothers additional time to prepare these key films makes sense. These two Avengers movies will pave the way for the MCU’s transition into the Mutant Era, where the X-Men will take center stage.
