The Ted Cinematic Universe (TCU?) is not something that many fans expected. Yet, the crass bear is now venturing into new territory as an animated character. Peacock has commissioned Ted: The Animated Series from creator Seth MacFarlane.
The creator of Family Guy will again lend his voice to Ted, the profane teddy bear from MacFarlane’s films and live-action series. The original cast members from the films will reprise their roles as series regulars, including Mark Wahlberg as John, Ted’s best friend; Amanda Seyfried as Sam, a lawyer and John’s love interest; and Jessica Barth as Tami-Lynn, Ted’s spouse.
Other regular cast members include Kyle Mooney as Apollo and Liz Richman as Ruth.
MacFarlane will serve as executive producer for all episodes along with Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh. This trio was also involved as executive producers on the live-action Peacock series.
The franchise's first movie, Ted, introduced John Bennett (Wahlberg) and his unique friendship with his talking teddy bear, Ted (MacFarlane). The film examined John’s childlike tendencies with Ted and the impact on his personal life, particularly in romantic relationships. Released in 2012, Ted became the highest-grossing comedy of that year, amassing $549 million globally. The film also earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
Ted 2 was released three years later. Although it did not reach the success of its predecessor, the sequel still brought in $215 million worldwide.
The franchise surprised audiences with the debut of Ted, a prequel live-action series on Peacock. Premiering in January 2024, Ted became the streamer’s most-watched original title to date and was Nielsen’s No. 1 Original Streaming Comedy in the United States for over two months straight. Peacock has renewed Ted for a second season.
Ted and Ted 2 are available for streaming on Netflix, while the TV show Ted can be found on Peacock.
