For Love of the Game (1999)

      Universal Pictures

What's more romantic than baseball? Sam Raimi — the director known for The Evil Dead and Spider-Man series — delves into a love story intertwined with baseball in For Love of the Game. Aging pitcher Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner) finds himself at the end of his career. The Detroit Tigers plan to trade him following his final outing against the New York Yankees.

While on the mound, Billy reminisces about his relationship with his girlfriend, Jane Aubrey (Kelly Preston), the love of his life who intends to leave him for a job opportunity in London. Billy's obsession with Jane clouds his performance, and he only becomes aware of his perfect game during the bottom of the eighth inning. Will Billy be able to complete the game? Ultimately, does it even hold significance if he can’t celebrate his achievement with Jane?
