The Surface Laptop 13 is the lightest model from Microsoft to date, featuring battery life that surpasses that of the MacBook.
Microsoft is revamping the design of its laptops, seemingly aiming to compete directly with Apple’s MacBook Air. The latest release from the Redmond company is a new 13-inch Surface Laptop, which is priced at $899—lower than Apple’s popular entry-level model.
According to Microsoft, this is the thinnest and lightest Surface Laptop to date. The new Copilot+ device has a smaller footprint than the MacBook Air and is slightly lighter, although it isn’t quite as slim as its competitor.
What makes it unique?
In contrast to the sharp angles and flat edges seen on previous Microsoft laptops, the new 13-inch Surface Laptop features rounded sides. Its construction utilizes anodized aluminum, and it is available in Ocean, Violet, and Platinum color options.

In a departure from its Apple counterpart, the 13-inch Surface Laptop includes two USB-C ports in addition to a standard USB-A port. The most significant enhancement is its battery life.
Microsoft claims it can achieve 23 hours on a single charge, surpassing the 15-inch Surface Laptop and the MacBook Air. Featuring the Copilot+ branding, this device is powered by Qualcomm’s 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor and comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
Starting at $899, the new Surface Laptop will be available for purchase on May 20, with pre-orders already underway. It will be available to enterprise customers in July.
What additional features are included?
The new Microsoft laptop boasts a 13-inch full-HD display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and multi-touch capabilities. However, in comparison to its 13.8-inch and 15-inch variants, the display refresh rate has been reduced from 120Hz to 60Hz.

It seems Microsoft aimed to create the ideal anti-MacBook running Windows 11. Therefore, the storage options begin at 256 GB and max out at 512 GB.
There is a full-HD Surface Studio Camera for video calls, featuring auto-framing, portrait mode, and various creative background effects. Charging is conducted through the USB-C port, which offers a maximum output of 60W.
With the new Surface Laptop, Microsoft also unveils several next-generation AI features such as Recall, Click to Do, improved Windows Search, and Live Captions, among others. Regarding repairability, the company states that nearly all components are designed for easy replacement.
