New AMD laptop GPUs have been revealed, and Nvidia could face challenges.
AMD has recently introduced some of its top graphics cards for desktops, including the RX 9070 XT and the non-XT version, while laptop gamers have had little to anticipate. However, this may soon change as a recent leak suggests that AMD is set to roll out an impressive six laptop GPUs, which includes an unexpected model.
The information comes from All The Watts on X (Twitter), who shared a somewhat enigmatic post featuring GPU specifications. Each model is marked with an "M," indicating they belong to the RX 9000 series for laptops, which is essentially larger than the current desktop lineup. In fact, the laptop range could surpass the desktop offerings since the latter is only expected to receive three new GPUs in the future.
The lineup features six models, beginning with the flagship RX 9080M. This is noteworthy because there is no RX 9080 in the desktop series at all. The RX 9080M is rumored to include 64 RDNA 4 compute units (CUs), translating to 4,096 stream processors (SPs). It is expected to come with 16GB of VRAM, which is a robust amount for any GPU, especially for laptops.
Following this is the RX 9070M XT, featuring 48 CUs and 12GB of VRAM. Then there are the RX 9070M (with 32 CUs and 8GB VRAM) and the RX 9060M (with 28 CUs and 8GB VRAM). The last two models will also be available in S versions, indicating low-power GPUs suitable for slimmer, more battery-efficient laptops.
In comparison, Nvidia's RTX 50-series for laptops is gradually expanding, although there are still more models pending release. Currently, the series includes the RTX 5090M, RTX 5080M, RTX 5070 Ti M, RTX 5070M, and RTX 5060M. Nvidia is also reportedly planning an RTX 5050, which would align with the last generation's offerings.
It’s encouraging to see AMD potentially building a more comprehensive GPU lineup to compete with Nvidia. However, aside from the fact that this is merely a leak (and thus may not be accurate), the concern remains about availability. AMD’s discrete GPUs were not widely featured in many laptops during previous generations; hopefully, this time will be different.

Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti is nearing its release, and anticipation is building for the big announcement. It's not just about how it will rank among the top graphics cards—although that is certainly a key concern. Amid a GPU shortage, many gamers have been anxious about the expected MSRP of these upcoming GPUs. The good news is it may not be as concerning as initially thought.
Recently, a leak from Board Channels revealed that the RTX 5060 Ti would be priced similarly to its predecessors. To clarify, we anticipate the RTX 5060 Ti to come in two variations: one with 16GB VRAM and the other with 8GB. Earlier leaks suggested the 16GB version would be priced at $499—matching the previous generation—while the 8GB variant would be available for $399.
Nvidia's RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti are reportedly on the verge of release, but their comparability to other top graphics cards remains uncertain. However, numerous leaks confirm a disappointing aspect I had hoped Nvidia would enhance this time: the memory bus is quite limited. According to a recent shipping manifest, both the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 will be equipped with a 128-bit memory bus, regardless of the VRAM amount. This might be inadequate for 2025, yet it’s possible Nvidia could navigate this limitation once again.
While Nvidia's most powerful graphics cards are available in laptops, gamers are still holding out for more affordable options. After all, some laptops featuring the RTX 5090 are priced at $5,000 and higher. Fortunately, new leaks indicate that Nvidia is preparing to introduce more mainstream laptops, featuring GPUs that have not yet been announced. As noted by VideoCardz, it seems that several Nvidia partners are gearing up to launch new laptops equipped with the RTX 5060 and RTX 5050. The fact that this isn't the first mention of these GPUs adds credibility to these claims, but it would be wise to temper expectations until Nvidia officially unveils them.
