NYT Strands for today: clues, spangram, and solutions for Sunday, April 20.
Strands is a brand new daily puzzle from the New York Times. It offers a more challenging twist on the traditional word search, requiring a sharp eye to solve it. Similar to games like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can sometimes be tough to complete. It's perfectly fine to seek a bit of assistance now and then. If you're having difficulty and want to know the answers to today’s Strands puzzle, take a look at the solutions provided below.
How to play Strands
Each Strands puzzle begins with the objective of uncovering the "theme words" that are concealed within the grid of letters. By dragging or tapping letters, you can form words; double-tap the last letter to confirm your selection. When you identify the correct word, the letters will be highlighted in blue and will no longer be selectable.
If you come across a word that isn't a theme word, it still contributes to your progress! For every three non-theme words you identify that have a minimum of four letters, you will receive a hint — one of the letters in a theme word will be revealed, and you will then need to unscramble it.
Every letter in the grid is used to construct the theme words without any overlap. Each letter is utilized exactly once.
Every puzzle features one "spangram," a unique theme word (or words) that relates to the puzzle's theme and spans across two opposite edges of the board. When you discover the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
The aim is to complete the puzzle quickly without relying too heavily on hints.
