A new monitor has seemingly shattered the company’s speed record with an astonishing 610Hz refresh rate.

The Asus ROG XG248Q5G-P was showcased on the Taiwanese manufacturer’s social media with claims of its record-breaking performance.

According to Asus, this monitor, specifically designed for eSports, is capable of being overclocked to achieve that exceptionally smooth 610Hz refresh rate.

While the name might not be memorable with the lengthy Asus ROG XG248Q5G-P moniker, its specifications are quite impressive.

Asus states that this model features a 24-inch Full HD display format with a “Super” TN panel that delivers an ultra-fast 0.1ms response time.

Although it can be overclocked to 610Hz, the default operating rate is 240Hz, which is still considerably fast.

Overclocking allows users to choose to boost the refresh rate to either 480Hz or 610Hz as needed.

Connectivity options are satisfactory, including HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, and a standard audio jack.

This monitor is purpose-built for gaming, featuring Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium for variable refresh rates.

Color coverage is also commendable, with 90 percent of the DCI-P3 color space represented.

Asus continues to innovate with its dual backlight technology designed to minimize motion blur and enhance brightness.

Being a ROG model, it will also come equipped with exclusive AI features such as an on-screen crosshair and improved shadow detail for enhanced visibility in competitive gaming.

The Asus ROG XG248Q5G-P is anticipated to start shipping next month with a price tag of 7,999 RMB, approximately $1,100. However, it remains unclear if this will be available in international markets at this time.

How can I utilize all that speed?

The lofty 610Hz refresh rate may not be attainable by many games. Initially, a highly powerful machine is required to produce such a fast and smooth gaming experience.

Additionally, there is the challenge of finding a game that can achieve that level.

At the time of writing, Doom Eternal, utilizing the id Tech7 engine, is highly scalable and may be a suitable candidate to test the limits of this monitor.

Samsung’s duo of new gaming monitors features a 500Hz OLED

If you thought CES 2025 would lack excitement for OLED gaming monitors, you were mistaken. Samsung is already gearing up for the event with two new OLED gaming monitors under its Odyssey brand, one of which pushes display technology to new heights with an impressive 500Hz refresh rate.

The Odyssey OLED G6 is a 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED model from Samsung capable of reaching 500Hz, marking a significant advancement for OLED displays. Last year, we saw monitors like the Alienware 27 QD-OLED achieving over 360Hz at 1440p, and dual refresh rate displays like the LG UltraGear Dual Mode OLED reaching 480Hz at 1080p. With Samsung’s latest offering, you can enjoy both 1440p resolution and the remarkable 500Hz refresh rate.

Samsung impressed me last year with its glasses-free 3D gaming monitor prototype—now it’s officially available

Flash back almost exactly a year to this day. I was in a partially constructed demo space playing on a Samsung prototype gaming monitor. The company showcased Lies of P—one of my favorite games from last year—while I navigated a midgame Mad Clown Puppet mini-boss. The experience wasn't just typical gameplay; it was glasses-free 3D, and it performed well enough that I was able to play a challenging game like Lies of P amidst construction noise and intense lighting without any troubles.

At CES 2025, Samsung is transforming that prototype into a real product with the Odyssey 3D.

I’ve been gaming on a 27-inch 4K OLED monitor for the past week, and it’s phenomenal

A 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor is quite significant. Samsung just revealed its own version, and we can expect to see more at CES. Based on what Asus has informed me, I'm among a select few reviewers who have been gaming on one of these new monitors recently. I’m referring to the Asus ROG Swift PG27UCDM, and the clarity it offers makes for an incredible gaming experience.

      But before I elaborate further—here's a caveat.
