NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Friday, April 11.

Connections is regarded as one of the top puzzle games from the New York Times. This game challenges you to categorize a selection of 16 words into four hidden (for now) groups by deciphering how they are related. The puzzle refreshes every night at midnight, with each iteration presenting a different level of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare scores with friends.

Some days can be more challenging than others, akin to other NYT Games favorites like The Mini and Strands. If you’re finding today’s puzzle difficult, refer to our Connections tips and tricks guide for some helpful strategies, or check out the hints for today’s puzzle below. If you're still stuck, we will reveal today's answers at the end.

      How to play Connections

Connections is a daily game that involves identifying links among words. Players must select four groups of four words while making no more than three mistakes. Play now. [link]

You can access Connections on the New York Times website or via the NYT Games app on iOS or Android.

In Connections, you'll see a grid of 16 words, and your task is to group them into four categories of four by recognizing the connections among them. These categories may include themes like titles of video game franchises, sequels of book series, shades of red, or names of restaurant chains.

Some words may appear to fit multiple themes, but there's only one completely correct answer. You have the option to shuffle the words on the grid to better identify potential connections.

Each group is assigned a color code. The yellow group is generally the easiest to solve, followed by green, blue, and purple groups.

Select four words and click on Submit. If you're correct, those words will be removed from the grid, and the connecting theme will be revealed. If you guess incorrectly, it counts as a mistake. You are allowed only four mistakes before the game ends.

Who is responsible for editing the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, is the daily editor for Connections.

"A few months ago, I received a new assignment: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and was looking for an editor," Liu shared in an article detailing her process in June 2024. "Most of my experience has been with crosswords, and I was thrilled for the opportunity to explore something different. I’ve enjoyed discovering how puzzle editing evolves once a game is approved and how our team fits into a broader ecosystem.”

On the one-year anniversary of Connections earlier this year, Liu shared a TikTok celebrating her favorite puzzles so far:
