When Ryan Coogler decided to create Sinners before embarking on Black Panther 3, he had to delve into his personal experiences.

In an interview with Deadline, Coogler talked about Sinners and the choice to explore vampiric horror rather than return to Wakanda for another installment.

“It’s intriguing that you ask about the timing of this project before Black Panther 3,” Coogler noted. “I realized I had been following a path of what I was capable of making versus what I genuinely wanted to create. I recognized that my past work had been in service of narratives outside of my own life.”

Coogler elaborated on how he found his way into the stories he previously directed. His debut, Fruitvale Station, was rooted in real events. With Creed, he stepped into Sylvester Stallone’s realm, offering a fresh perspective on the Rocky series. For the Black Panther films, Coogler was approached for an “open directing assignment.”

With Sinners, Coogler felt it was time to truly convey his thoughts to audiences.

“I have this company that can help create projects. I’ve connected with viewers worldwide,” Coogler shared. “Who at my age can claim to have had four films released in theaters? Yet, I haven’t fully opened up to the audience... I haven’t delivered something that was entirely me.”

Sharing more of himself with audiences involved venturing into one of his favorite genres: horror.

“It’s amusing that when I say, ‘Hey, I’m making a horror movie,’ people are surprised. But if you know me, you know I enjoy those films,” Coogler remarked. “I realized that the audience doesn’t actually know me. I was concerned that, before I knew it, I’d be 50 and still in this position, possibly without anything left to express. So, the motivation for this film was the urgency to create it now, with the people I wanted to collaborate with. It was a now or never situation, and I feared missing that opportunity.”

Michael B. Jordan stars as Smoke and Stack, twin brothers who return to their hometown seeking a new beginning, only to encounter a dark force awaiting them. Coogler mentioned that his late Uncle James’ passion for blues music significantly influenced Sinners.

Written and directed by Coogler, Sinners is set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025.

Returning stars from USS Callister for the sequel include Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, and Billy Magnussen.

Scarlett Johansson shares disappointing news regarding Black Widow and Marvel

It’s time for the fans to bid farewell to Natasha Romanoff, or so Scarlett Johansson suggests. In an interview with InStyle, Johansson addressed Black Widow's position within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Natasha infamously perished in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, sacrificing herself to secure the Soul Stone. Even though the character is dead, fans still hold onto hopes of her return. Johansson is now clarifying the situation. “Natasha is dead. She is dead. She’s dead. OK?” Johansson expressed. “Fans just don’t want to accept it. They think, ‘But she could come back!’ Look, I believe the entire universe's balance rests on her choice. We need to move on. She saved the world. Let her have her moment as a hero.” After Endgame, Johansson reprised her MCU role in 2021 for Black Widow, but that film remains her final appearance in the Marvel franchise.

Thunderbolts draws parallels to 'A24-esque assassin film' and Toy Story 3

Thunderbolts will be the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This eclectic group of misfits must join forces on a perilous mission, leading to either glory or death. Among the Thunderbolts is Yelena Belova, portrayed by Florence Pugh. Unlike the Avengers, the Thunderbolts have been marginalized by society; they do not embody the heroism of figures like Captain America and Thor. Furthermore, the film's director, Jake Schreier, is known as an indie filmmaker rather than a typical blockbuster director.
