The creator of The White Lotus, Mike White, suggests where season 4 may take place.
HBO
The widely acclaimed HBO series The White Lotus concluded its third season on Sunday evening. What will be the setting for The White Lotus season 4?
Following the episode, HBO aired a special interview with creator Mike White that explored insights from the episode. With season 4 already confirmed, White suggested that the show's setting might depart from the ocean for the first time in its history.
“For the fourth season, I want to move away from the crashing waves and rocky shores, but there's always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels,” White mentioned during the interview.
The previous locations for The White Lotus have been Hawaii (season 1), Italy (season 2), and Thailand (season 3).
HBO EVP Francesca Orsi informed Deadline in February that a European setting was the top contender for season 4.
While White may steer clear of oceanic locations in the upcoming season, don’t anticipate any cold-weather themes either.
“I’m confident that we will never have a season set in the cold,” White Lotus executive producer David Bernad told Bill Simmons when queried about a season centered on skiing. “Mike's not suited for it. He’s a California guy and not made for the cold. While I won't rule it out entirely, I'd be surprised.”
The season 3 finale of The White Lotus attracted 6.2 million cross-platform viewers in the U.S., according to a Warner Bros. Discovery press release. This marked the third straight week of record-breaking viewership for the series, surpassing the season 2 finale (4.1 million U.S. viewers) by 51%.
