      This ambitious project is a collaboration between Orta Therox and Zach Gage, a game designer well-known for mobile games like Knotwords and Good Sudoku. His latest endeavor has been under development for years and aims to serve as a centralized hub for Gage’s puzzle collection, competing with popular sites like The New York Times.

      Move over, Wordle: The New York Times has introduced a new puzzle game.

      The New York Times has unveiled its next addition to the Games catalog following the success of Wordle, and it's focused on math. Digits requires players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. You can currently play its beta version online free of charge.

      In Digits, players are given a target number to match. They receive six numbers and can use any combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division to approach the target. Not every number needs to be utilized, making this game a challenge for your math skills as you work to create the correct equations to reach the target number.

      Players earn a five-star rating for matching the target exactly, a three-star rating for being within 10, and a one-star rating for being within 25 of the target number. At present, players can also engage with five different puzzles, featuring progressively larger numbers. I completed today’s puzzle and found it enjoyable, particularly for those who love number-based games like Threes and other New York Times titles such as Wordle and Spelling Bee.

      In an article revealing Digits and discussing the New York Times Games team's development process, The Times mentions that the team will use this free beta to fix bugs and evaluate whether it should advance into a more active development phase "where the game is coded and designs are finalized." Therefore, play Digits while it’s available, as The New York Times may discontinue the project if the response is not as anticipated.
