Three excellent free movies to watch this weekend (March 14-16)

After several unremarkable weekends at the box office, three new films are set to release on March 14. These include *Novocaine*, an action comedy featuring Jack Quaid; *Black Bag*, a spy thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett; and *Opus*, a thriller with Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich. If none of these pique your interest, consider watching Bong Joon Ho’s *Mickey 17*.

These four films should entice audiences back to theaters. However, you can also opt to stay in and enjoy a free movie on a FAST service. We suggest three options: an award-winning musical, a comedy from the 1990s, and an engaging crime drama.

Additionally, we provide guides for the top new movies available for streaming, as well as the best films on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Max, and Disney+.

      *West Side Story* (1961)

      United Artists

Who would have thought that William Shakespeare’s *Romeo and Juliet* would inspire one of the greatest musicals of all time? After its Broadway success, *West Side Story* was turned into a musical film by directors Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. Set in 1957 in New York City’s Upper West Side, it chronicles the turf war between two rival gangs: the Jets (the white Americans) and the Sharks (the Puerto Ricans).

In the midst of their struggle for dominance, Jets co-founder Tony (Richard Beymer) falls in love with Maria (Natalie Wood), the sister of the Sharks’ leader. Their romance blossoms despite the growing tensions in the streets. With its stunning dance sequences and memorable songs, *West Side Story* is an all-time classic and a deserving Best Picture winner.

      *Happy Gilmore* (1996)

      Universal Pictures

Where does *Happy Gilmore* stand among Adam Sandler’s most iconic characters? If it’s not at the top, it’s definitely in the top five. Happy Gilmore (Sandler) is an aspiring hockey player with dreams of going pro. Unfortunately, his lack of skill and explosive temper prevent that from happening. In a bind, with the bank threatening to foreclose on his grandmother’s (Frances Bay) home if he doesn’t raise $270,000 within 90 days, Happy seeks alternative ways to make money.

He finds that he can challenge golfers by outdriving them on the range. While Happy may not be able to make a slapshot, he can hit a golf ball over 400 yards. With assistance from former golf pro Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers), Happy reaches the PGA Tour. His unconventional style annoys many, particularly Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald). With *Happy Gilmore 2* on the horizon this summer, now is a great time to rewatch and see Happy’s journey to mastering the putt.

Currently, Taylor Sheridan is one of the most prolific creators in television, effectively managing Paramount+ with *Yellowstone* spin-offs and various dramas. Before his television success, Sheridan was a talented screenwriter in the 2010s. His third Western, *Wind River*, may be his finest work. Set on the Wind River Indian Reservation, Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) serves as a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agent.

Tragedy unfolds when Lambert discovers the frozen body of a young woman on the reservation. Given the possibility of homicide, the FBI dispatches Special Agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen) to investigate. As Lambert and Banner collaborate, they uncover secrets that could threaten their lives if revealed. *Wind River* is a classic crime thriller featuring an unforgettable gunfight.
