The Gemini app provides a variety of helpful features, but it currently lacks video analysis capabilities based on uploads from PCs or phones. This may be changing soon, however, as an examination of the APK code indicates that Google is developing a video upload feature. This addition could enable Gemini to analyze and summarize videos uploaded by users directly, allowing it to compete with ChatGPT, which already has this functionality.

Android Authority conducted an in-depth analysis of the source code from the beta version of the Google app and discovered some intriguing information. Since this was identified in the official Google app, it is likely that it will eventually be incorporated into Gemini, though it’s prudent to approach this information with some skepticism.

With that said, let's take a closer look. The latest beta version (16.9.39.sa.arm64) contains code snippets referencing terms such as “attached video file,” “play video file,” and “video file length.”

This differs from Gemini's current capabilities, which allow it to analyze and summarize websites, images, and even videos, but only through links provided by users. The new updates imply that soon users will be able to upload their own videos into the Gemini app for assistance with summarization.

Android Authority attempted to determine if the new feature was live, and although it is not yet available, they managed to upload a video file for the chatbot to examine. Unfortunately, Gemini could not analyze the video, and playback was not functional within the app. It's still early in the development process, so this is to be expected.

ChatGPT currently allows users to upload their own videos and summarizes them upon request. For Gemini, integrating this functionality would be a significant advancement in maintaining competitiveness among AI chatbots.
