I'm excited about the AI glasses trend after recently trying out the Meta Ray-Bans ($300) and Even Realities G1 ($600) over the last few months. Tecno has made this field even more interesting with the introduction of two new AI glasses at Mobile World Congress 2025. These models merge AR glasses capabilities with the hardware of Meta Ray-Bans, featuring a camera and speaker.

I had a brief hands-on experience with the Tecno AI Glasses Pro, and there’s a lot to like. On paper, they offer certain advantages over the Even Realities G1. Here are three key points to know about the Tecno AI Glasses series:

      1. Centralized display

The Tecno AI Glasses Pro have a MicroLED screen on both sides with a 30-degree field of view and “over 1,500 nits of brightness.” For comparison, the Even Realities G1 has a 25-degree field of view, but these numbers don’t tell the whole story.

With the G1s, I noticed that the AR dashboard seemed further away, which helped it not interfere with my perception of reality. All features, including the dashboard, navigation, and teleprompter, were positioned at a comfortable distance from my eyes. Consequently, using navigation allowed me to maintain focus on the road, but I fear that may not be the case with the Tecno smart glasses.

In contrast, the Tecno AI Glasses Pro provide a more front-facing perspective. Everything, from the dashboard to functionalities, is placed directly in front of the user. While they are larger, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are better. I prefer AI to be more ambient in my smart glasses so I can remain attuned to the real world, rather than being distracted as with a smartphone. This AR experience is not to my liking.

      2. Features of Tecno AI Glasses Pro

During my hands-on experience, I noted eight functionalities available on the dashboard: Teleprompter, Camera, Contacts, Music, Navigation, Translate, Ella (the AI assistant), and Reminders. The ninth option was Settings. I didn’t delve deeply into these, but some of the challenges presented by the Even Realities G1 persist.

For example, the navigation feature relies on a proprietary service rather than Google Maps, which could hinder seamless integration. I’m also doubtful about the practicality of navigation using a full-screen view on these glasses.

Unlike the Even Realities G1, the Tecno AI Glasses Pro includes a built-in 50MP camera. Tecno claims it has the “highest-resolution camera of any AI glasses,” which may be true, but the actual quality remains to be seen. More megapixels do not always equate to superior images, yet I have optimistic expectations.

The 50MP camera allows for capturing photos and videos, similar to the Meta Ray-Bans, and offers a 100-degree field of view. The company has not revealed the app’s details, but it’s meant to feature a “SmartSnap” option that “intelligently recognizes scenes, assists in shooting, and automatically generates appealing captions for easily capturing life’s memorable moments.”

Tecno’s announcement also integrates AI, with the built-in Ella AI acting as a smart assistant for planning activities and offering restaurant recommendations. It claims to compile “notifications and data from multiple apps, providing concise reports.” Similar to the Meta glasses, these can recognize objects and places when prompted.

According to Tecno, the AI Glasses Pro can sustain “over 11 hours of music playback and 8 hours of mixed use after just 30 minutes of charging.” These are ambitious claims, which I will test once the product is released. Additionally, these AI glasses include a speaker for music listening, along with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless connectivity.

      3. Another model is available

The Tecno AI Glasses Pro are accompanied by a more affordable model known as the Tecno AI Glasses. This non-Pro version lacks a screen, offering only a speaker and camera combination, akin to the Meta Ray-Bans, and omits most features found in the Pro model.

Without an AR display, the Tecno AI Glasses forfeit functionalities like navigation, translation, and teleprompter usage. However, both new Tecno smart glasses still offer capabilities like object recognition and information summarization.

Both smart glasses are constructed from aluminum alloy and ultra-light composite materials, providing IPX4 protection against sweat. However, they don’t have the aesthetic appeal of the Meta Ray-Bans or Even Realities G1.

I wore the AI Glasses Pro for about 10 minutes, and they felt comfortable—almost as light as my regular glasses. The controls were responsive, but the overall feel did not seem as refined as current market offerings. Both models come in two designs: Eyebrow Frame and Aviator Style.
