For those just starting out, the plethora of tips and tricks in Monster Hunter Wilds can be quite daunting. Determining which weapon to use or which armor to upgrade is already a challenge, but fully understanding the game’s intricate combat mechanics can demand dozens of hours. Even friends who have invested hundreds of hours into earlier titles may find themselves at a loss with new features like offset attacks and power clashes. That's where we come in to guide you through this new mechanic, explaining how it functions and its significance.

      How to execute power clashes

Power clashes are a novel move type available only to select weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. Before delving into specifics, ensure you have one of the following weapons to perform a power clash:

      - Great Sword

      - Gunlance

      - Sword and Shield

      - Charge Blade

      - Lance

      - Heavy Bowgun

While offset attacks require you to time your strike to interrupt an enemy, power clashes occur when you perfectly time your block to parry an incoming hit. This necessitates impeccable timing, and it’s worth noting that not all attacks can be countered this way. You will recognize a successful guard by observing a faint white glow around your character as they absorb the hit. Execute enough perfect guards, and a power clash will eventually be triggered. Once this happens, you’ll need to quickly hit your attack button to secure the victory in the clash. If successful, the monster will be thrown off balance, leaving it vulnerable to your attacks.

The primary distinction between power clashes and offset attacks is that the former doesn’t require complicated inputs or combos for each weapon. If you can master the timing, power clashes become a more dependable strategy. However, similar to offset attacks and status effects, you will need to perform multiple blocks to achieve additional power clashes as you continue to use them.
