Lenovo's Yoga Slim 9i is the elegant choice, while HP's OmniBook Ultra is the powerful contender.
Occasionally, a few laptops emerge that fall into the same category yet have distinctly different objectives. In the realm of 14-inch laptops, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i 14 Gen 10 and the HP OmniBook Ultra 14 exemplify this contrast. While the Yoga Slim 9i aims to be exceptionally stylish and ultra-slim, the OmniBook Ultra 14 seeks to project a more robust and rugged appearance. Each approach has its attractions, but which one suits your needs better?

Currently, the Yoga Slim 9i 14 Gen 10 offers just two configurations. You can choose an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD for $1,760, or for $1,835, you can upgrade to the faster Core Ultra 7 258V with 32GB of RAM. The 14.0-inch 4K+ OLED display is the only option available.
The OmniBook Ultra 14 provides more choices. For $1,350, you receive an AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 14.0-inch 2.2K IPS display, which is the only option. Upgrading to the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and 32GB of RAM costs an additional $150, while a 2TB SSD adds on another $180, with the most expensive configuration totaling $1,680.
Thus, the HP is the more budget-friendly option of the two laptops, absent any sales, yet both fall within the premium category.
**Design**
When comparing these two laptops, it's evident they convey different aesthetics. The Yoga Slim 9i 14 Gen 10 features smooth, rounded edges, a consistent dark blue color scheme (aside from a somewhat distracting bright blue keyboard), and a glass lid that provides a subtle sheen, giving it a radiant appearance. In contrast, the OmniBook Ultra 14 sports a heftier design with HP’s signature notches carved into the lower display corners and the rear edges, a dark gray color palette that is less refined (though still appealing), and speaker grills beside a slightly darker keyboard. Consequently, it is visually attractive but doesn’t draw attention in the same manner.
This is also reflected in their sizes. The Yoga Slim 9i boasts impressively narrow bezels, with a webcam embedded under the display, rendering it slightly narrower and much shallower. It is also thinner at 0.57 inches compared to 0.65 inches and significantly lighter at 2.76 pounds against 3.47 pounds. As we will explore below, the extra bulk of the OmniBook Ultra is due to a cooling system designed to manage the heat from much greater processing power, making it a reasonable tradeoff for those who prioritize performance and are indifferent to a larger, heavier device.
Both laptops are well-constructed, featuring all-aluminum chassis. While the OmniBook Ultra 14 has a lid that is less flexible, both devices exhibit sturdy keyboard decks and chassis that withstand pressure.
The keyboards are quite similar, sporting large key
