      It's now 2025, and that means one thing: Avatar 3 is on the horizon. Later this year, James Cameron will take audiences back to Pandora with Avatar: Fire and Ash. After showcasing the ocean-dwelling Metkayina clan in The Way of Water, Cameron will present two new Na’vi groups in Avatar 3: the Mangkwan and Tlalim.

      The Mangkwan, commonly called the Ash People, are led by their strong leader Varang, portrayed by Oona Chaplin. Cameron shared with Empire Magazine that the Ash People have endured immense hardship and will pose a significant threat to Jake Sully and his community.

      “Varang leads a group that has faced tremendous adversity. She’s been shaped by those experiences,” Cameron explained. “Our goal with this film was to avoid a simple black-and-white narrative. We aim to move past the idea that 'all humans are evil and all Na'vi are good.'”

      In contrast, the Tlalim Clan is much more amicable than the Ash People. Known as the Wind Traders, the Tlalim travel on massive creatures high above the water in the clouds. Peylak, portrayed by David Thewlis, is one of the central Wind Traders.

      “They’re nomadic traders, similar to the camel caravans that traversed the Spice Road during the Middle Ages,” Cameron described when discussing the Tlalim. “And they’re quite enjoyable. Like all Na’vi, they exist in harmony with their creatures.”

      The Na’vi must remain wary of the RDA, who return with renewed determination in Avatar 3. Jake Sully and his allies gained the upper hand in The Way of Water, something the RDA has not overlooked. Production designer Ben Procter mentioned that Fire and Ash will feature a battle scene that will make the conflict from The Way of Water seem like “just a minor skirmish.”

      “At the conclusion of Avatar 3, we’ll witness a level of conflict that is unprecedented,” Procter told Empire.

      Avatar: Fire and Ash will hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
