      Oracle and Quantinuum have formed a multi-year partnership, wherein Quantinuum will set up its Helios quantum computer within a US Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) AI data center, with Oracle providing access as a managed service. The financial details were not disclosed, a launch customer was not identified, and there was no specific timeline given, apart from a mention of a preview “in the coming months.”

      Typically, quantum cloud services operate on a brokerage model: a customer submits a task from a hyperscaler's console to a quantum machine at the vendor’s facility, with results returned afterward. By integrating Helios into the OCI data center, the quantum processor will coexist with Oracle’s GPUs and high-performance computing (HPC) resources, all governed by the same security measures, thereby facilitating hybrid workloads that require interaction between classical and quantum computing.

      Helios was not newly developed; it was commercially launched by Quantinuum in November 2025. It is a trapped-ion quantum computer featuring 98 physical qubits, 48 logical qubits demonstrated, and an average two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921%. Its energy consumption is approximately 60kW, compared to the tens of megawatts used by leading classical supercomputers, though this comparison is somewhat misleading due to the limited range of problems Helios currently addresses.

      “Integrating Helios into OCI provides Quantinuum and Oracle with the chance to develop a uniquely integrated environment for hybrid workloads, investigate enterprise applications with customers, and enhance commercial adoption,” stated Rajeeb Hazra, President and CEO of Quantinuum.

      Mahesh Thiagarajan, Oracle's Executive Vice President of Cloud Infrastructure, was more cautious regarding the offerings. He mentioned that the objective is to provide developers with "a practical and secure means to investigate how quantum computing could augment their existing AI and HPC tasks on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure while enhancing computational efficiency and energy utilization." The specified target applications include drug discovery, materials science, financial modeling, and large-scale optimization in logistics and energy sectors.

      Oracle is entering the field later than others. AWS has provided its Braket service since August 2020, Microsoft’s Azure Quantum has been available since February 2022 and already includes Quantinuum’s H-series hardware, while IBM has been offering access to its machines since 2016. Oracle’s distinguishing feature lies not in the variety of services but in the depth of its offering: one supplier, one machine, on-site, in contrast to a marketplace of remote quantum processing units (QPUs). Whether businesses prefer this model will be determined by the upcoming preview.

      Notably, Nvidia was absent from the announcement, despite Quantinuum having an existing NVQLink integration since last November and Oracle's hybrid proposition relying on GPU availability.

      For Quantinuum, this partnership marks the second major validation in a transformative year for the company. It priced its Nasdaq IPO in June at $60 per share, selling 28 million Class A shares to raise $1.68 billion at an approximate valuation of $14 billion—exceeding its own revised expectations and more than twenty times oversubscribed, based on revenue of $30.9 million and a net loss of $192.6 million for the year 2025. The company trades under the ticker QNT, with its roadmap extending to Sol in 2027 and Apollo—the machine it claims will demonstrate true quantum advantage—in 2029.

      Europe is pursuing a different approach; for instance, Finland’s IQM has installed superconducting machines directly within research data centers, advocating that co-locating with classical HPC will yield the most fruitful results first. Oracle's strategy incorporates this rationale into a commercial cloud setting, which may be viewed as either a practical synthesis or a rapid means of catching up, depending on one's perspective.

      Investor reaction was subdued, as Oracle's stock fell by 3.69% to $145.48 on Tuesday and Quantinuum dropped by 0.94% to $56.06, slightly recovering in after-hours trading. A partnership lacking disclosed terms, an identified customer, or a launch date presents challenges for valuation, reflecting the state of quantum computing over the past decade.

      Currently, none of the involved parties have offered a workload that performs better with this new arrangement. The announcement emphasizes “exploring enterprise use cases with customers,” a common industry phrase for projects that have not yet yielded results. Quantinuum’s annual revenue of $30.9 million against a loss of $192.6 million serves as a reasonable indication of the current state of commercial quantum computing.
