iPadOS 27 introduces a more intelligent Siri, a permanent Menu Bar, and the ability to resize iPhone apps on your iPad.
iPadOS 27 follows one of the most ambitious iPad updates in years with something quieter but arguably more beneficial.
iPadOS 26 was Apple's most significant iPad update in recent years. It featured a comprehensive productivity overhaul that revamped multitasking, making the iPad feel more like a laptop alternative.
Introduced at WWDC 2026, iPadOS 27 adopts a different strategy. This update focuses on enhancing existing features, making them better and faster, along with some key upgrades.
What’s new in iPadOS 27?
The standout feature is an upgraded Siri AI that is being introduced on the iPhone. This fully conversational AI assistant is powered by Apple’s Foundation Models and Gemini, in collaboration with Google.
It includes a dedicated Siri app, a new wave-like animation, on-screen awareness, system-wide proofreading, and seamless conversation continuity across devices. For example, if you switch from your iPad to your iPhone during a conversation, Siri will continue right where you paused.
This alone offers a significant improvement for anyone who uses multiple Apple devices.
One of the most popular features from iPadOS 26, the Menu Bar, now has an option to remain on-screen permanently, eliminating the need to swipe for it repeatedly, which can be quite frustrating at times.
What else comes with iPadOS 27 and when?
The new software allows you to resize iPhone apps when running on the iPad. Additionally, Safari introduces automatic topic-based tab organization, a genuinely helpful feature for users who tend to leave numerous tabs open.
Improvements to Photos include the customization of slideshows, and iCloud Shared Albums will now be accessible across Android and Windows devices. The search functionality has been revamped with enhanced intelligence for quicker and more relevant results.
Similar to iOS 27, Apple will not exclude any iPads from the iPadOS 27 compatibility list this year. The developer beta is already available, while the public beta will launch in July. The full release is scheduled for this fall, coinciding with Apple’s next hardware lineup.
