Apple's macOS 27 Golden Gate officially signifies the discontinuation of support for Intel Macs.
Apple recently announced macOS 27 Golden Gate at WWDC 2026, and there is one crucial takeaway for every Mac owner: Intel Macs are no longer supported. This latest version will only operate on Apple silicon devices, completing the transition that Apple began in 2020 and effectively closing the door on its older processors.
If you still have an Intel Mac, you will continue to receive security updates from Apple until 2029, but significant software upgrades for those devices have come to an end.
Here’s the complete list of Macs that support macOS 27 Golden Gate:
- MacBook Neo (2026)
- MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- Mac mini with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- iMac with Apple silicon (2021 and later)
- Mac Studio (2022 and later)
- Mac Pro with Apple silicon (2023)
Which Mac models will have full Siri AI features in macOS 27?
Apple
Not all Macs listed as compatible will have access to the full range of features. The most advanced functionalities of Siri AI require at least an M3 chip and 12GB of unified memory, which excludes the MacBook Neo and any Macs equipped with only 8GB of RAM.
However, there is an unexpected advantage here: Mac users in the EU will gain access to Siri AI from the launch date, while iPhone and iPad users in the same region will have to wait due to Apple’s ongoing dispute regarding the Digital Markets Act. macOS 27 Golden Gate is set to be released this fall, with an English beta for Siri AI to follow at a later date.

Safari is finally addressing its extensions issue. Unlike Chrome, Apple will allow you to create your own.
Safari’s shortcomings in terms of extensions may finally receive a practical resolution, as Apple Intelligence converts natural language descriptions into custom web tools.
Safari has never been the preferred browser for a vast selection of add-ons. Chrome has consistently been seen as the clear choice in this regard, whereas Apple’s browser has focused more on speed, battery efficiency, privacy, and seamless integration across its devices.
Now Apple is trying a different approach. Announced at Apple WWDC, Safari will allow users to describe the type of extension they want, enabling Apple Intelligence to create it. This innovation transforms Safari AI extensions into personalized web modifications rather than just another task to find, install, and hope someone updates.

As Apple advances AI in its software, the RAM crisis has emerged, affecting your devices.
iOS 27 illustrates the direction of Apple’s AI roadmap and reveals why devices with 8GB of RAM are already falling behind.
The upcoming divide in Apple’s AI seems less of a software-related limitation and more a consequence of memory constraints. The requirements for iOS 27's most advanced on-device AI model suggest that some devices designed for Apple Intelligence may not be able to run the most capable version locally.
This distinction places the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air in a different category compared to older hardware designed for Apple Intelligence. Apple has conditioned users to anticipate long device lifespans, but AI is reshaping the significance of specifications once again, especially for those who have treated RAM as a less important detail.
