A leaked dummy of the iPhone fold reveals a device that is unlike any other on the market.
Apple's inaugural foldable device is broader, more compact, and resembles an iPad more than anything Samsung has attempted.
Recent dummy models of the iPhone Fold, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max have emerged, confirming information that has been circulating for months. Apple is designing a book-style foldable rather than another tall, narrow version, which should enhance the tablet-like experience when opened.
The dummy models reveal that the iPhone Fold has a noticeably wide and compact design, shorter and broader than any device in Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, reminiscent of the original Pixel Fold. When opened, it essentially transforms into a small landscape iPad.
The dummy models of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max appear more familiar, featuring a triple camera setup on the back and a MagSafe ring prominently displayed. There seems to be a smaller version of the Dynamic Island, although it remains unconfirmed.
What additional features come with the new iPhone Fold?
According to prior CAD designs, the iPhone Fold is equipped with a camera module that includes two cameras, an LED flash, and a microphone. Leaks indicate it will have a sizable internal 7.8-inch display along with a 5.3-inch cover display.
The cover display has rounded edges and features a centered hole-punch cutout, a first for an iPhone. Upon opening, you’ll find a large folding display extending to the rounded corners, with thin bezels and a hole-punch camera located in the top-left corner.
The dummy models do not showcase any cutouts for the punch-hole cameras, so the exact dimensions of the cutout remain unknown.
When can you purchase one?
Reports indicate that Foxconn has begun early-stage trial production, with suppliers projecting a release in the latter half of 2026.
However, analyst Tim Long believes that the iPhone Fold will be announced at Apple's September event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, but shipments may not commence until December.
Apple is reportedly integrating foldable-specific features into iOS 27, which will include split-screen support and a multitasking experience more akin to that of an iPad.
If you’re considering purchasing one, it’s wise to start saving, as pricing is expected to exceed $2,000.
