NYT Strands for today: clues, spangram, and solutions for Friday, May 2.
Strands is a fresh daily puzzle introduced by the New York Times. It offers a more challenging twist on the traditional word search, requiring a sharp eye to complete the task. Similar to Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can sometimes be quite tricky. It’s perfectly acceptable to seek assistance if you find yourself in a bind. If you're stuck and need answers for today’s Strands puzzle, you can find the completed puzzle below.
How to Play Strands
In every Strands puzzle, your goal is to uncover the “theme words” concealed in the letter grid. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping them to form words; double-tapping the last letter confirms your choice. If you discover a correct word, the letters will be highlighted in blue and will no longer be selectable.
If you come across a word that isn’t a theme word, it can still be beneficial! For every three non-theme words that have at least four letters, you will receive a hint — one of the theme word’s letters will be revealed, and then you’ll have to unscramble it.
Every letter in the grid is utilized to form the theme words, with no overlapping; each letter is used only once. Each puzzle also includes one “spangram,” a specific theme word or words that define the puzzle’s theme and stretches between two opposite sides of the board. When you find the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
The aim is to finish the puzzle quickly while relying on as few hints as possible.

Wordle was the game that really gained significant popularity, prompting it to be a natural acquisition for the New York Times. Almost anyone who has attempted it has become addicted to it for good reason. The concept is straightforward, but solving these puzzles can be quite difficult. If you haven't tried Connections or were discouraged by it the first time, check out our expert tips and tricks to get a better understanding of how to tackle each puzzle. Once you do, you’ll find yourself playing every day.
Connections Tips and Tricks
The rules of Connections are simple: you have a 16-word grid that you must arrange into four groups based on a common connection. For instance, four of the words might all be types of fruit, making it logical to group them together. However, Connections is much more complex than that, so don’t expect the solutions to be immediately clear. The various groups are also color-coded by difficulty, with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and lastly purple, which is the hardest.
